Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Have to stay out of the box, first and foremost. Then they have to get bodies to the net, pucks to the net, and score an ugly goal (that will look very, very nice.)

Got it back after reloading a dozen times...still choppy.

These commentary / play by play guys are BAD.

could not agree with you more. If I hear them call our girls thugs one more time, I think I'll just turn off the sound!

You think these schools would realize that a fairly good portion of their audience are from the other team, and they deserve some sort of competency in audio.

It's as if they don't understand there's actually legal contact in women's hockey.

Yikes. You guys make it seem like these announcers are worse than Clarkson's. Im not listening, but if thats the case, my sincere apologies. No one should have to put up with that. Boo.

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Rematch ends in a 0-0 tie after OT.

Not one goal on the weekend...tough to win under those circumstances. :(

And they capped it by saying Harvard has to start focusing on its in-league action with it's game Tuesday against UConn

Towards the end a Minnesota player PUNCHED a Harvard player and the officials had COMPLETELY LOST CONTROL OF THE GAME.

And you'd think if you're paying $6.95 for a game you'd get some replay and not insipid Harvard/ECAC advertising during the breaks.

Guess Katey Stone didn't listen to me screaming during overtime "pull the goalie!" No doubt she didn't want to jeopardize all the hard work this weekend and its likely effects on H's national rankings, but I really did want to have a shot at being able to say that the two-year home-and-away series had ended in a dead heat rather than Minnesota taking it 2-1-1.

Anyway, thanks for a wonderful match up and hope these two superb teams meet again....Later This Season!

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

The good news is that after the series in Grand Forks next weekend, the 2010 portion of the schedule doesn't have the Gophs leaving the state. Only 5 more road games -- 2 in Bemidji, 2 in Duluth, and 1 in St. Cloud -- and the possibility of playing the entire postseason at home. We often hit a lull around this time of the year; hopefully, we have enough gas in the tank to get through UND.

Near Miss: Senior Brittany Francis beats Harvard's Christina Kessler but misses the net by millimeters Friday night.

Rebound Control: Megan Bozek clears out a juicy rebound from the slot as Harvard's Kaitlin Spurling looks to pounce.

Whip It: Did you know that the velocity of a wrist shot is actually faster than a slap shot using a composite stick. Apparently the flex is greater, generating a faster shot, as Anne Schlepher demonstrates.

Robbed: Left all alone at the edge of the slot, Harvard's Liza Ryabkina took a feed from the left wing and walked in on net Saturday. However, the lightning fast reflexes of Nora Raty allowed her to go post to post and eliminate the previously wide open net that awaited Ryabkina's shot.

I don't know who I'd quote to respond to, but as a relatively neutral observer of Friday's game, I thought it was great hockey and very enjoyable to watch.

Did Harvard get away with a few infractions that could have been called? Yep. Did Minny? You betcha. But the officials let both teams play, and the result was a fast paced, flowing game, unencumbered by calls that one side or the other was going to question.

There was contact, but not malicious, and both teams were playing the same style. As is generally the case between evenly matched teams, there were times when each had momentum advantages, but the opposition regrouped and recovered.

Wish I could have seen the rematch, but alas, I was in NH watching, well, history being made:(
