Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Hmmmmmph. Shoddy journalism, overlooking the fact that Misses Kessel and Bozek were teammates on the 2009 U18 World Championship team. Defenseman never get any love.
I think you're being a little harsh on a poor college kid. It could be a case where he asked Kessel why she first started to consider Minnesota, and she mentioned the connections to Schoullis and the three from the 2008 U18 Team. Bozek may not have come up due to the time line. But he had to put a lot of work into the story to get quotes from six different recruits who aren't centralized in one spot. Definitely more work on this one piece than the StarTrib has put into the entire season.

As far as overlooking information, it's very easy to do. Sort of like a poster above overlooking the fact that Schleper is a defenseman when arriving at his conclusion.:p

Yeah, well, ok, how about overlooking frosh D from Chicago....that was a teammate at the 2007 Holiday Camp. And the 2008 Women's National Festival and Summer series, and the 2008 Holiday Camp etc. etc. :p

John Hageman continues his coverage of the GWH team for the Minnesota Daily -- No. 2 Minn. travels to No. 9 Harvard
After years of watching the Crimson, Frost said his squad and Harvard have similar playing styles.

“I think that they are going to be very fast-paced games … just like last year when we played them; a bounce one way is probably going to determine it,” he said.

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Following the Minnesota-Harvard picks on the D1 thread, and the prognisticators so far have it as:

Friday - Gophers 6, Harvard 3 and one tie
Saturday - Gophers 7, Harvard 1 and two ties

Sure hope the consensus proves to be correct!

From today's St. Paul Pioneer-Press and columnist Bob Sansevere:

Gophers goalie is a Finnished product

Sansevere: How tired do you think you will be, going right from the Olympics to playing in the WCHA and NCAA tournaments?

Noora: I don't think I'll be tired. We'll be playing in Canada, so there will be no time difference. It would be different if we were playing in Europe. I am used to playing a lot, so I don't think that will be a problem.

Little known fact: Warm chocolate chip cookies are the current comfort food of the Gophers. ;)

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Notice I said "current." The weekend has just begun!!!:p
I think the team has been spoiled by Cookie Mom. They're used to getting cookies at the home games. So they won't turn down fresh cookies while on the road either. :p

For those thinking about watching the game tonight, remember it's a 6:00 PM CT start.

GO GOPHERS!

Ranked team on the road...a real test for Minnesota. Last similar circumstances, didn't go so well. Hope they're healthy and come to play.

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Woo Hoo, time to head to Cam....well, actually Allston, since the rink is on the other side of the Charles River. Looking forward to rooting for the Gophers and the new girl with the big hair!!

I'm quite confident the Gophers will sweep. Now DON'T make me eat those words! :)

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Anyone else watching the game?

Reminded me a little of the Friday game in Madison with a strong start by the Gophs, then a little sloppy in latter stages...although not nearly as severe as in Madison.

Gophers really not generating much during their early dominance.

I'm watching.

The live announcers are interesting. Thuggish? Not dirty but close to it?

But now they are talking about Harvard playing a physical brand of hockey and really taking it to the Gophers.

Sounds like if your team does it, then it is cheap, but if my team does, then it's good, hard-nosed hockey.

Yes...interesting indeed. ;) Gophers were "throwing a lot of elbows" I was unable to see. I thought they missed one near the end of the 2nd when West was taken down on a rush. Does look a little physical out there...both ways. Is this an example of the alleged more physical nature of the WCHA compared to other conferences? Regarding the "incredulous" reaction by video commentary team, that is?
