How exactly will those nutjobs build said dirty bomb...call Doc Brown? Even genius level guys like The Unabomber couldnt do it no way some nut could. So they would need to buy it...I dont think the militias ha a spare million or ten to spend.

This is exactly what I was saying earlier. Terrorists, like typical street criminals, are not going to look for the hardest way to make their points. If you leave your car unlocked and your cell phone and I-pad sitting in plain sight on the dash, the thief is going to steal your stuff. He's not going to go to my locked car with no visible items of value in the next space and look to rip me off. There are plenty of readily available, usually legal, components with which to make highly explosive bombs out there. The difficulty of building and detonating an actual functioning atomic weapon is so large that it simply is not worth the risk and effort of terrorists or their umbrella organizations. Certainly steps need to be taken to make sure it stays difficult, because given the option I'm sure ISIS or some other radical group would use one, but it is not something I will ever worry about to the extent the political forces do.

Radiological weapons -- dirty bombs that explode conventionally but are designed to spread radioactive material -- are probably an easier goal of terrorists, and they still have not managed that yet. Even easier still would be biological weapons, something we have seen here and abroad, but something that isn't even happening on anywhere near approaching a regular basis.

I don't think there is an absence of danger when it comes to terrorist groups using WMDs, I just think it is often greatly overstated and plays into a culture of fear and paranoia. That leads too often to unintended consequences. For every law they pass to thwart the possibility -- no matter how remote -- of something bad happening, I lose a little of my freedom. If we reacted like this to every potential danger we face in our daily lives why are we not all wrapped in bubble wrap and wearing crash helmets every time we venture outside? I can think of dozens of ways I can be harmed that are all exponentially more likely than the harm that may come my way from a terrorist, home grown or imported. I think for the vast majority of the advanced nations of the world this is equally true.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised. Every generation has its fruits and nuts.

If we're going by the poll numbers from 2010 or so, 16% of the 18-29 demographic sounds about right.

The TPers had their shot with youth when they at least paid lip service to libertarianism. 20-something males are impressed by that sort of thing ("When I was 3 I thought the world revolved around me"). But the TP lost any chance it had to expand beyond the yokels when it went full ****** on social issues, and now it's just another brownshirt brigade. Golf clap, Fox.

Of course there will still be young TPers -- old resentful white racists have grandkids, too.

He writes a good column. He presents a conservative viewpoint that is not off the rails.

Kep appears to like reading him too, and we're about 160 degrees apart on the political spectrum.

If somebody wanted to post a liberal columnist, have at it.

Pat actually has a brain and is known to use it on occasion. I'd rather read his columns and gloss over the racist/sexist parts than, say, anything from the orcs at WND or the gasbags at Daily Kos.

I do like reading Pat, though I rarely agree with him. I enjoyed his duels with Jack Germond back on the McLaughlin Group eleventy-billion years ago.

Pat is also probably the only human being who was friends with both HST and Nixon. You can see he has a lively sense of the absurd that comes through in much of his writing. His attack on immigrants, though, is pure scurrilous rabble-rousing, and is beneath him.

The illegality of immigrants doesn't really bother me (all immigration prior to the '20s was in such an amorphous state of legality that anybody (like me) with ancestry before then really has no grounds for griping), but Pat's attacks don't dwell on the niceties of legal distinction, he goes right for the nativist jugular with crackpot ethno-cultural theories straight out of Sudden Sam Huntington and his ilk.

In the end Pat's arguments come down to "just enough of me, way too much of you," and that's anti-American IMHO.

Plus, the hotness quotient of Americans has been cratering since the 60s, and we really need miscegenation to get back in the game. Have you seen Brazilians?

Seen them? I hired one to clean my house! :D

Pat is a knowledgeable commentator who goes off the deep end on immigration with his "only northern Europeans" schtick. Does that mean no Italians too? But otherwise you can get some decent insight even if I disagree with a bit of it on other subjects. Few conservatives nowadays (and most likely few liberals too) would take the side of the "opposition" on something the base deems as a hot button issue such as the Iran negotiations.

It did once, and fairly recently. The advance of "whiteness" has a really interesting history. A hundred years ago Italians and Jews weren't "white," and 150 years ago the Irish weren't. It's only a matter of time until Hispanics become "white" and are invested with all the in-group white characteristics: hard working, responsible, moral, etc. That's one reason why all the racists are playing the watermelon thigh rhetoric to the hilt -- the rural white underclass is about to lose tens of millions of people they used to be able to lord it over.

Well, they still have the blacks, at least.
