Global War on Terror Version 7 - The Nightmare that Threatens the World!!!

Re: Global War on Terror Version 7 - The Nightmare that Threatens the World!!!

I touched on this in later posts but there is even less chance a lone bomber can get his or her hands on a functioning nuke than a nuclear armed Iran lobs an atom bomb at one of its close neighbors. Nuclear weapons are incredibly hard to build, maintain and successfully detonate. The crazies in ISIS or any of the other terrorist groups we all have been hearing about for decades now would have done it by now if they could. I'm not saying it can't or won't happen, my problem is how we treat it as if it is some sort of inevitability and overreact because of that. Let's just nuke the living @**! out of everybody now because someone might get us some day.

One plausible outcome, to me, is that Iran gets nuclear weapons, uses them against us (perhaps to create EMP above our cities to cripple our economy?), then Russia, who knows they'd be next on the list, launches a pre-emptive strike against Iran once Iran has used up their stockpile. then China invades eastern Russia with conventional forces since the Russian nuclear arsenal has been depleted.

Clearly Kerry and Obama did not ever play Risk in their childhood; nor do either one of them understand anything about chess. they have been consistently outthought and outmaneuvered and their hubris is so great they are blind to it.

these people clearly and undeniably hate us and would do us grievous harm if they could.

Does anybody here seriously believe that when the Iranian mullahs say "death to America" that they don't mean it?

If you do, let me know, I have a few items I'd like you to buy from me......

Castro said it for 55 years. Look where it got him.

Montesquieu was right -- the three branches and checks and balances works. Currently our government is frozen and uncompromising because we as an electorate are frozen and uncompromising. The government's actually doing exactly what it's supposed to -- reflecting the will of the people.

I know what you're saying, but...

The government is a reflection of the people. The big difference is that its also supposed to govern. We citizens don't need to find common ground to move forward...but we have much higher expectations for our government and should. Without that...politicians are just like polarized citizens that are paid well to sit around and debate all day.

Well, one problem may be whenever politicians attempt to lead the other side brands them as dangerous Unconstitutional tyrant monsters. :)

I think we're gradually emerging from a period in which regional, social, economic and political divisions that were roughly 50/50 all happened to align, and that produced a stalemate. On the one hand, that was bad because the resulting intractability of both sides meant that even quotidian stuff like paying debt service and repairing roads and bridges stopped dead while the two Gargantuas battled it out.

On the other hand, the last time this happened the result was a little more earnest, so maybe we should give ourselves credit for evolving a bit over the last 150 years.

Up the road and around the corner from you? That looks like Antietam / Sharpsburg.

My great great grandfather was with the 14th New Jersey at the Battle of Monocacy. Last fall I did a brief tour of the battlefield. It was weird knowing that my great great grandpappy was there 150 years earlier.

Earlier I was at Appomattox. He was there, too, but did not take part in the surrender ceremony.

Yes. It's a very moving site if you ever get the chance, and there is a quiet but determined feeling of solidarity that comes over one there -- it makes you really want to ensure "never again."

Edit: I see you have been there, so you know.

All of my family came to America more than 20 years after that battle, but I still feel these are "our brothers" when I'm there. I would say I really only feel "American" on election day and when visiting Civil War sites.

If the deal is so bad, how come the only people against it are the right wing reactionaries from the US, Israel, and Iran?

How come none of the opposition parties in Europe are against it? Why isn't there any uproar anywhere else?

Any deal where the right wing in the US and the fundy clerics in Iran are each splitting blood is a good deal.

Because they go to the gulag if they speak out. After all, they're under Shariah law and are "sensitive to Muslims".

You clearly have no clue about nuclear weapons. Russia has ~700 megatons of nuclear warheads. That's 46,000 Hiroshimas. They could destroy Iran 100 times over and not even notice that the bombs were missing.

That last part is what I find scariest. They did an audit of our ahem "biological research" (translation: watch Resident Evil and get back to me) facility at Fort Detrick and, despite a year's prior notice and a tiger team assigned by the auditor to help the facility pass the audit, they found about 10,000 samples that were not under control.

The 9,220 samples -- which included the bacterial agents that cause plague, anthrax and tularemia; Venezuelan, Eastern and Western equine encephalitis viruses; Rift valley fever virus; Junin virus; Ebola virus; and botulinum neurotoxins -- were found during a four-month inventory at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick, Md.

And our control is MUCH better than the Russians, who are famously inept at accounting for and properly storing and disposing of materiel. There is probably enough nasty stuff floating around the former USSR states to end all life on earth. It's a miracle it hasn't been scavenged by or deliberately sold to bad actors with their mind on our murder and our murder on their mind.

Skinny dippin Joe

So what? It's the female agents problem, not his. They're offended, not harmed.

As long à he's not waving Little Joe in their faces, this story is making a mountain out of a molehill.
It does show the lack of regard the man has for others, if it's true.

I would have two questions for the man and the agents. Does he do this same thing when he's assigned men to his guard him? Has anyone ever asked him not to do it? That last one might be career suicide. I should talk to my brother, his sister-in-law in Secret Service out in DC. I know she's been rotated through both the Veep's and POTUS's security details.
