The filibuster vote isn’t everything. Manchin will play along with plenty of stuff in one of Bernie’s reconciliation bills. Manchin has said no on the filibuster for months now. Same with Sinema. It looks like she’s voted with Trump or held his official position as much as Manchin %-wise, and look at how much we rip Manchin. According to fivethirtyeight’s Trump’s +/- score, she’s Trumpier than McConnell. Anyways, I digress.
If writing solid reconciliation bills that can get Manchin and Sinema on board with 50% of the liberal agenda isn’t what Bernie was really put on this planet for, I guess I’m at a loss. If the man isn’t prepared for this moment, based on the likelihood that reconciliation might be the only path forward for a solidly progressive agenda- but certainly better than having no solidly progressive agenda on the table at all were it 51R/49D, shame on us for believing in him. If he hasn’t been talking to Manchin and Sinema for weeks now, if not months, about what they want, and how Bernie will make sure the federal f-cking government gets most of what they want, then shame on us for believing in him. I’m going to give it some more time. I guess I had accepted weeks ago that the filibuster likely wasn’t going to be dismantled, so Manchin and Sinema reasserting that changes little for me, as I’m assuming it changes little for Bernie, Schumer, etc. As an aside, McConnell won nothing on giving into the power-sharing agreement.
