Future of the ccha????

Re: Future of the ccha????

I think it's less to do with budgets and more to do with the fact we are both D-II in everything besides hockey (although I personally think UAA is scheming for D-1 with their new arena, but that's another discussion). That plus the fact we are in Alaska, which might as well be the moon for those NCHC schools.

I don't think that argument holds much water since there are several of the other NCHC schools in that same situation, correct?

Re: Future of the ccha????

No doubt we are a much better fit for the WCHA. We would be “owned” in every sense of the word by the NCHC. But there aren’t too any programs out there that basically pay for all their conference foes to travel to their barn and also provides those same teams an opportunity to pick up two more non-conference <s>home</s> games. The NCHC wouldn’t be looking so much at what we bring to the conference, but how can they best “use” us to their benefit.

I hope we end up in the WCHA.
Why do you alaskan fans keep inserting "home" into that? Most teams will get 2 extra games and half the time those will be at home because of the exemption.

Re: Future of the ccha????

That's doing one trip down to Huntsville by choice. Not the same as having to make that trip every year.

IIRC, in its application to the CCHA UAH offered to offset some of the travel, wonder if that still on the table this go around.

Nope...UMD (DII) and CC (DIII) are the only programs include that aren't at least transitioning to DI across the board. DU & Miami already are...UND and UNO are at different points of the transition. UMD are defending champs with a new arena, CC is a strong program with tons of history and a close relationship with DU.

That's two out of 6, qualifies as several IMO. But I still don't think that's more of an issue than the budget committments.

I stand corrected.

Re: Future of the ccha????

@ Shirtless. Are you considering DI as both BCS and Non-BCS? or as the olden days used to know them: D-1A and D-1AA?
Well yeah...because both ARE D1. DU and UNO don't even have football so 1A-1AA means nothing to them. UND will be D-1AA, Miami is D1A

No, 2 never qualifies as several 2 is a couple, a few, several would mean at least half and normally 4.

 You must be a real hit at parties. Anyway, as of this point in time, 4 of them are not currently DI across the board, so "several" is applicable. But leave it to an engineer to miss the primary point because of semantics/one word... lol

Re: Future of the ccha????

It's a difference of 3 hours in distance from Mercyhurst to Bentley versus Mercyhurst to Huntsville. It's only a difference of ONE HOUR of driving time from RMU to UAH versus RMU to Bentley.

I do the drive from Huntsville to Columbus or Cleveland multiple times a year, in one day, by myself. Sure, it's closer then Pittsburgh or Erie, but not by all that much. Travel for the western PA schools should not be the huge issue that you're making of it. Can you read a map? It's not like Huntsville's on the Gulf Coast. It's 1.5 hours south of Nashville.

Gee, I'd have never known that, having lived in Alabama for six years. Yes I can read a map. I've been to Huntsville many times. Love the Dreamland BBQ there. And the VBC is a pretty decent arena. I've been to a lot of games there. Worked for several years in hockey in Birmingham too. Huntsville is 818 miles from Buffalo, 731 from Erie and 672 from Pittsburgh. The three hour difference between the trip to Bentley and the trip to Huntsville makes a huge difference. Bus drivers are limited in the amount of driving they can do in a day. That trip from Pittsburgh or Erie to Bentley is right around the max that most teams will undertake in one day. I've got a pretty good idea how hockey teams travel, having booked many trips and put over 200,000 hockey bus miles under my belt. Can teams do the trip? Yes? Do they want to do it every year? Hmmm...

This isn't a party, leave it to an engineer to point out that you're wrong...pretty simple fact there jughead. 4 of them have made the commitment to be D1 across the board, a fifth is defending national champs and has a shiny new arena. The 6th may be a D3 but it has 18 straight non-losing seasons, during that span...11 NCAA appearances, 14 Seasons with 20+ wins, 4 seasons with 30+ wins and is DU's "little sister." I do however agree that squarebanks was mistaken. It's completely about commitment to hockey and athletics as a whole.

Fixed that for you ;)

Re: Future of the ccha????

Here is an interesting article from Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News ... it appears that Saint Terry is not finished investing in hockey in Buffalo.

http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/columns/bucky-gleason/article496933.ece

I will say that his take on the CCHA is more reflective of what it was than what it is about to become.
I got half way through before I had to stop because this obviously has no clue.

First, he compares the new CCHA to the Big East in Basketball? That itself should rid him of any credibility.

Next, I quit reading right after he said that there are 60+ teams in D1 hockey. The moran can't even count.

It's the Buffalo Snooze. What do you expect?

FBS and FCS, last time we beat a BCS team Ben was still tearning his way through Brick Street on Friday nights ;)

Edit: I take it back, we won the bell in 2005, go us!
