Future of the ccha????

Re: Future of the ccha????

That just isn't even a remote possibility. ND is long gone. BGSU and Western are heading for the exits too, but just for fun, let's pretend they don't leave. So you get to a seven team league with BGSU, Western, the Atlantic 4, and Huntsville. That league would be a complete a mess in terms of geography, similarity of member schools, and competitiveness. And I have no idea who the 8th school would be. Are we waiting for Miami to come crawling back from the NCHC? Unlikely, and clearly not by 2013. There is no possible way either BGSU or Western even consider this option. They are going to the NCHC or to the WCHA.

The CCHA is done. Good riddance.

So you agree with me, except you don't realize it and used terrible logic to get there? Thanks for chiming in.

...Niagara, Robert Morris, Canisius ... and Mercyhurst. As far as competitiveness, those upper level AHA teams can certainly compete with those teams...

Obviously written by someone not intimately familiar with the AHA. None of use would use the bolded terms above in reference to one another. :P

Perhaps you forgot that Canisius went into Kalamazoo and beat Western Michigan last year 5-3 then proceeded to play them close again the next night before losing in OT.

Everyone has a good weekend once in a while. Canisius had some talent, but were never consistant enough to be an upper level AHA team.

I have to give you credit. This is literally the first time I've ever seen someone on this site attempt to give props to a team for beating Western Michigan. I got a good chuckle out of that. Thanks.

WMU actually had a decent season last year and rightfully deserves some credit. The initial point was to show that the AHA 4 would be competitive in a revived CCHA with WMU, BGSU and UND. It is too bad that the big boys never want to give anyone else credit for a good season. Some of them will always find a way to compare their average down year to someone else's better years. It is sad that those people never see that part of the joys of college hockey is to see another team do quite well. Good luck and may many more teams look forward to getting recognition for beating WMU.

One good non-conference win does not make an upper-level team, because it certainly didn't translate into a good performance in-league. In all the years I've been watching MAAClantic Hockey, I would have to firmly put them in the middle tier of the league most years.

I can't speak for others, but I don't think it was so much about not giving WMU credit for a good season as not accepting the "CC beat WMU once in October and WMU was pretty good, therefore CC is an upper-level AHA team" rationale. By that logic, then is everyone who managed a win or tie against any tournament qualifying team an "upper-level" team in their conference? Let's take WMU for example. Amongst the teams that either beat or tied the Broncos last season were: Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Alaska, Ohio State, St. Lawrence, Bowling Green, and of course the aforementioned Canisius. Now, I realize CC is only an AHA team and the others are from "real" conferences, however... none of those schools exactly lit it up last season and none could be considered upper-level anything. The point is that even bad teams beat good teams occasionally. It doesn't mean the balance of power has shifted every time an upset happens.

Obviously Michigan Tech is a top ten team because they beat Denver in Denver last year ;)
