Future of the ccha????

Maybe its because they would actually have to convince the AHA schools to bolt, but I for one find it odd that there hasn't been one peep about any role that UAH could play in keeping the CCHA afloat.
UAH currently brings nothing to the table. The CCHA needs to bring at least three teams (AHA or wherever) that have (or will have) played league play for two years. Or they run the risk of losing their auto-bid. UAH hasn't played league play in the last two years.

I say three AHA teams because it's rumored that UA_ is bailing. So LSSU, FSU, BGSU, 4 AHA teams makes seven teams. UAH can be invited then to make eight.

Or at least I hope that's the reason.

Because nobody else needs to be in the loop about the potential for UAH's movement but UAH.

"League play" is not the qualifier. "League play together" is the qualifier. It's not good enough to have been in any league; the six teams must have played in competition with each other.

I didn't realize that was one of the conditions of the auto-bid. Odd.

Re: Future of the ccha????

Any developments from the exploratory meeting?

Perhaps one of the most important things to note is that according to the USCHO article "The CCHA has given its remaining schools a Sept. 30 deadline to declare their intention to leave the conference in 2013, a source told USCHO." So that puts UA, Western Michigan and Notre Dame on a timetable.

That's kind of what I was thinking there. It might actually be better for the CCHA leftovers to bring in UAH into the league as early as next year, the 2012-13 season, just so they can say that they've in a league together longer, or at least faked it enough that the NCAA waves that requirement so that the CCHA would still have an autobid in play in 2013-14.

Hell, they let the CHA get away with 5 and 4 teams to keep their autobid. some rules could be fudged here I think. It might make somebody mad as hell come NCAA time, but they could fudge some stuff for the good of College Hockey.

Re: Future of the ccha????

The NCAA kept granting waivers for the CHA. However, they said that they were done giving the waivers, so that lead to the dissolution of the CHA. Could a 4 team CCHA get a waiver? Possible.

I thought that as long as the league got 6 teams the autobid is saved.

There is a two year grace period in there if you fall out of compliance. So if the CCHA can assemble any 6 or more teams under the CCHA name effective as of 2013-2014 and keep them together, they will use the grace period and then be back in compliance. That way, the auto bid never goes away.

I think the answer as to why UAH isn't currently being mentioned lies with the fact that just UAH probably won't be enough to save the CCHA. They need several schools. If they can get 3-4 AHA schools to make the move, THEN they can worry about UAH and where they may or may not fit in the CCHA's long term plans.

Good point there. Hell, right now UAH has to be so ready for a league right now they'll jump at about any offer they get I would think. Ferris and Bowling Green need those AHA teams first.

So without waivers, only Atlantic Hockey, ECAC and Hockey East will have auto-bids in 2013-14? That would be another kick in the balls to the CCHA/WCHA.

No, there is the grace period, mentioned earlier. They will have the auto-bids.
