Frozen Four - Where to Eat? Drink? Must See Stuff

Re: Frozen Four - Where to Eat? Drink? Must See Stuff

Do you think a club would be open and in business for a non-Bruins game?

I sit in the Club or the SportsDeck for Hockey East, and the whole place is open. SportsDeck seats come with free apps and soft drinks; club seats you can order from your seat and they'll deliver it to you - no waiting in line!

And therein lies the problem...it's a LOOOOONG time from 2:00 until the end of the 2nd game...but if you like paying $9.00 for a slice of pizza, feel free to eat at the Gahden...
Not really much choice. But look at the bright side. At least you won't get stiffed for $8.50 for a 12 ounce Pabst Blue Ribbon or Bud Light!:)

Hate to shock you but the price is now $10.50. At Hockey East my wife observed four guys get two beers apiece and two of those big pizza slices for a total of $90.

Golf courses for the all-important day off Friday :D

I am thinking that golf is highly in doubt. Weather forecast between now and Friday is cloudy, rain mid-40's to mid-50's. And if the courses near me (Lynn) are an indicator, most will probably still have some snow piles in shady areas. And even if they don't, the courses will not be in any kind of playing shape. If you want to play, safest bet is to head for the Cape. Talked to a friend yesterday who plays at Cranberry Valley in Harwich and they opened this past Saturday. But Greater Boston? Another week or so I would think. Last year my course opened on St. Patrick's Day with temps in the 60's. What a difference a year makes.

I know. :) I was teasing...it was in reference to someone's post to the effect of "why does every thread with Mookie in it have to eventually become about golf?"

Nothing wrong with that, especially this time of year.

Yeah, I'd love to get out there too. I just don't feel like wearing rain pants and ruining my shoes (new $150 Foot Joys) sloshing through the water and mud. :) And no, "Dry Joys" aren't dry in this kind of water...

Subscribed for obvious reasons.

I'm staying at the Wyndham Beacon. Looks to be a prime location.

Trying to figure out my itinerary since it looks like pretty crummy weather Thursday and Friday.

Re: Frozen Four - Where to Eat? Drink? Must See Stuff

One question, if I'm flying into Logan and staying at the Wyndham Beacon Hill, is there a way to get a CharliePass at the airport or is it like Philly where out-of-towners kind of get screwed since they don't sell passes at the airport?

I posted on GPL about it too, but I'm thinking that Saturday lunch/afternoon that we're going to check out the seaport area. Get lunch at one of the restaurants that was recommended in an earlier post on here, check out Trillium Brewing and Harpoon Brewery, and see some other sites in that neighborhood. Seems like a pretty cool area. If more from the group wants to join, feel free.

There are fare vending machines at the Logan Airport terminals. That's what it says on the website. Where it is, I don't know.

For the off-day, if you're new to Boston and ambling around the Garden, Quincy Market, and the North End, it's an easy walk to the New England Aquarium. Well worth the visit.

And if you feel the need to see Hahvahd, take the red line T from Park Square (or Charles St) to Harvard Square. Bartley's is a great burger place a block or two from the Square proper--dozens of varieties, fabulous thin onion rings, and raspberry lime rickeys. Elbow-to-elbow seating is part of the ambiance.

You're fine, there's machines at the Airport blue line station or if you take the silver line to South Station (free) to the red line, there's machines and attendants with charlie cards there.

Machines will sell you a pass on a ticket. Pretty sure you have to find an attendant to get a card (fares are bought through the automated machines. No human T sells)

Yeah, I meant to imply that you have to get a plastic Charlie Card from an attendant, machines only will print you the fare or day/week/monthly pass on a paper ticket.

Can I transfer a paper ticket to a card?

Re: Frozen Four - Where to Eat? Drink? Must See Stuff

Also, just know that the airport station is a little off the airport. Requires a shuttle bus from the terminals, and can be pretty slow. But, it will save you $25-30 on he cab fare.

BTW, I strongly recommend pre-game food and drink at Hennessey's pub. It is between Faneuil Hall and the North Station area on Congress St, near the Holocaust memorial. Authentic Irish pub, including music and the staff. Good food including a full Irish breakfast available anytime, and the best pint of Guinness in the city. It's an extra 5 minutes walk to the Garden, but less crowded than the Garden bars. On second thought, forget I said anything. It's a terrible dive and should be avoided at all costs....

Re: Frozen Four - Where to Eat? Drink? Must See Stuff

But, if you do stop by, say hi. I'll be the tall, well fed gentleman wearing a BU scarf and downing pints like I'm afraid they won't make any more.
