Frozen Four - Where to Eat? Drink? Must See Stuff

Re: Frozen Four - Where to Eat? Drink? Must See Stuff

I have been their once, for the first round ECAC playoff game between BU and RPI in 1969. Has it been renovated since then? I don't recall if their was an upper deck then.

Didn't the RPI boys act up a bit once the game was out of hand? And I think it was out of hand fairly early.

I don't recall the game well. We lost 4-2, so the game wasn't ever out of hand. My recollection is that the RPI fandom thought that we deserved home ice over BU since we defeated BU 7-0 in the regular season, however by the end of the season we suffered from the usual RPI malady of that era of players being academically eligible. Also we had injury trouble. I do have a program somewhere.

We did get trounced by BU in both the 1971 and 1972 first round playoffs. They sound more likely, but they must have been in Walter Brown Arena.

Question on the T

We're traveling with a group of 8, staying near the Prudential Station. We're staying for 6 nights and wondering if it's our best bet to buy a week pass that appears to be $19, or to buy as we go. Using some quick math, we'll probably spend a few dollars less than the $19, as a few members will be in the discounted rates for seniors or Children. Even if it cost a few more $ per person was wondering if was more convenient, assuming it's a pass that only needs to be scanned. Also can they be purchased at any station.

Thanks for any help!

Re: Frozen Four - Where to Eat? Drink? Must See Stuff

Definitely go with the pass. Subway fare is $2.65 per trip, so going to and from a place is $5.30. Even if you only go to one place a day for 6 days, that's $31.80. If you use the T to get to more than one place per day, it goes up from there.

Even if you thought you were only going to use it for like 3 days and were thinking "well, 3 days worth of trips is only $16 and the pass is $19 so I'd be saving $3 for each pass", don't. You'll end up going somewhere you didn't expect and having to pay for it. Plus the convenience of it is well worth it; you won't have to worry if you have enough money on your ticket for where you're going every day or do math ahead of time for the things you have planned, you just have a pass and don't have to think about it. The ticket-buying machines in the T stations are, I think, intentionally cumbersome/unintuitive to get you to spend more money on things than you need, so if it's like day 5 of your trip and you need to reload it again, you're almost sure to overpay for it unless you can find the "secret" menu options or whatever.

I live here and have a monthly pass that I technically pay for but my company handles paying for it every month through a payroll deduction and it's simply glorious not having to ever worry about paying for rides or having enough on my pass.

edit: also, if you're staying near the Pru and haven't gotten your passes yet by the time you arrive at the hotel, walk over to Back Bay station and ask the station attendant for CharlieCards, and then use the CharlieCards to put your passes on. It technically doesn't cost less if you're getting a weekly pass, but it's so much more convenient to just wave the card in front of the fare gate sensor instead of inserting a ticket. The ticket mechanisms are really wonky and sometimes take a long time to give you your ticket back.

7 rides is your b/e ($2.65)

the machines are exactly speedy either.

if i was going to be there a week w/o another form of transportation and knew i was using the T frequently i would buy a week pass.

In 04 we got pass of some kind, don't think it was a week though. Maybe a 3 day pass? is that an option? I do remember it was easier/quicker to board with pass

No only daily, weekly, and monthly now. 100% agree go with a week pass if you're here 6 days. You'll absolutely use its value in that time. Any station attendant at any underground station will have the plastic Charlie Cards.

I'll be in the North End and I'm not saying which one.:p:D

Re: Frozen Four - Where to Eat? Drink? Must See Stuff

Thanks for everyone's help! It seemed like the best idea but figured would verify. I'm correct that my 3 year old doesn't need a pass correct. Appears from the website under 11 was free.

Re: Frozen Four - Where to Eat? Drink? Must See Stuff

Friday should call for seafood at the No Name Restaurant on Fish Pier.
Ask for a table by the window if 1 is open.Origionaly a diner type to serve the workers on the pier it has morphed to a great value with the freshest seafood possible in the City. Have to get the sea chowder and finish with pie. All good.
