Friars Hockey 23-24: Season-Long Thread of Pain

Not sure about the mathematical formula used by the pairwise, but PC started at #9 and split with BC who were rated #1 in the polls but a little lower in the pairwise. Since both teams won the home game and lost the away game, (obviously), and are in the same conference, the weight of the 2 game series would be equal. With BC being ranked higher to start the weekend you would think that PC would have moved up in the rankings. They went from #9 to #10 with the loss on Friday so you would expect that maybe the status after winning Saturday would have improved maybe from #9 where they started to #8. Of course what happened with all the other teams in the mix has an impact too. Since the total games PC has played is 19 the results from one game impacts the formula by only a small amount. I am OK with using the pairwise to determine the NCAA field, (after the auto bid for conference winners), rather than subjective selections by a committee. Hope the formula makes sense, but it is very complicated. Thankfully #9 would mean you would make the field and I think since one regional is in Providence that PC would play here. Let’s hope they keep playing well and stay healthy, they are a good team and deserve the chance.

Watched the Chipotle All American game yesterday. All three Providence commits played very well with John Mustard scoring the winning goal in OT for team white, while Trevor Connelly just missed doing the same thing for team blue a little earlier. Jack Parsons was the team blue goalie for the first two periods and looked solid with a cool calm and collected demeanor. The pipeline is strong for the friars based on these three and other recruits who were not eligible for this showcase. The showcase format isn’t the best as players are not competing so much for the team as they are to stand out as individuals. My sense is there was little time for team practice but many players were familiar with each other by playing in the USHL with or against the same guys. Trevor Connelly was unable to make it to Michigan before game day so I wonder if he was even able to participate in a practice. He said he was booked on 9 different flights Sunday that were all canceled due to weather and finally got one in the wee morning hours on game day.
Great to see Yoder get Hockey East Player of the Week honors, he deserved that. As PK said his development while at Providence is evident. Don’t know if a 5th year is a possibility, but selfishly, would love to see him back.

I only started following the team last year since my son got into PC. Judging by the traffic in this thread, Zlax, you are a stain among the fanbase and you seem to thrive on negativity as well as having an unhealthy obsession with the coaching staff. Let me ask, what level of hockey did you play up to or what is your history of coaching like? I expect you will avoid these questions because you have nothing positive to offer.

I am a realist. PC has one of the highest paid coaching staffs in the entire country and they continue to be checked out with no impact players and lack of skill throughout the lineup. This program has been in a massive slide since 2019 Frozen Four squad.

Actually Zlax you are a negative oriented troll who would not recognize the good fortune PC has in its coaching staff regardless of results. You only post after a loss and are silent otherwise, (like after the great win over Denver and last week after the fabulous win over BC). You are a plague on this thread and belong elsewhere.
