Friars Hockey 23-24: Season-Long Thread of Pain

PK and Chu, you may be on to something regarding a bot here. PK’s advice to ignore Zlax45 might have been the wisest course. I wonder if there is a site administrator who could help us out? Can those posts be blocked?

Would be worth a try. I mean, burning a decade posting the same things over and over and over is literal insanity. No idea who site moderators are but it's basically spamming the board for years.

"Perhaps one of the most impressive things about BC hockey is how consistently good they have been over the years. As of now this is tied for the longest stretch that BC has not appeared in a Frozen 4, for 7 years, with the last appearance in 2016. The other time was 1966-1972. They have only had one other gap greater than 5 years as well in their history, 6 years from 1979-1984. The only other school without at least a 10 year gap is Minnesota with 9. North Dakota 10 years would be next best. Minnesota has had 4 other gaps of 6 or 7 years as well to go with their 9 year gap. North Dakota has had 2 other 9 year gaps and an ongoing 7+ gap now as well. Even the stalwart programs that have more titles like Michigan and Denver have much wider gaps. Michigan 12 and 14 years, Denver 12 and 17 years, BU 11 years twice, Wisconsin 21, 13 and another 13+ years ongoing now, Michigan State 16 and another 16+ ongoing now, and Harvard had a 22 year gap. So, BC has been far and away the most consistent Frozen 4 participant."

PC was in the Frozen 4 in 2015 and 2019. They were also in the tournament for six straight years from 2014 to 2019. There was no tournament in 2020 so we have only missed 3 years without having a chance for another Frozen 4. All in all, our record of appearances since Nate Leaman has been the coach is very good compared to the historical record noted above to say the least. Would be great if PC gets into the tournament again this year, they do have a good chance right now but still a tough stretch of league play ahead. With the recent rapid movement of top flight players from college to the pros, I would anticipate that the stretch between Frozen 4 appearances will increase in general because replacing your best players with new ones just as good becomes more difficult if you have to do that so frequently. For example, Jack Dugan had 52 points and Tyce Thompson had 44 points in 2019-2020 and then both left early to turn pro. They both may have been well advised to stick around to hone their skill even more, but that is a short time to fully impact a program and leaves the program at a big disadvantage. There may be players in the PC pipeline right now who are in their talent category, but the better they are the more likely it is they will leave early too. The NHL may be killing the goose the way this is going, but it won't just be PC that feels the brunt of this.

Don't give Nate a pass on the 2019-2020 season which ended early in the Hockey East tournament. They played the entire regular season finishing in seventh place with a LOSING record in Hockey East play going 10-11-3. They were only going to get in the NCAA Tournament that year with a miracle Hockey East tournament run as they were 22nd when the season was called. https://www.collegehockeynews.com/ratings/pairwise/2020

Educate us about your solid playing career and amazing coaching record and accomplishments. Take your time, I'm sure it's a lot to share with us.

I thought perhaps the honest research by the BC poster would provide some continuing education for us. Not surprising that Zlax reflected on that not one bit, instead repeating his decision that we should count a year with no tourney as a year where we missed the tournament. This is a restatement of many posts last year stating the same thing over and over. It is just as much a pompous know it all position now as it was then.

Reading the next BC post after the one I copied makes me realize that those BC posters are way too optimistic for supporters of a team that has failed to make the Frozen 4 since 2016. That could provide Zlax the perfect opportunity to show his PC fan support by posting there instead of here. That might be just what we need to change the tone and upset their entire culture. Now that could be a true win win.

Yawn.

Maybe the wrong thread but some of you longterm Friar faithful, what should I know about UMass-Lowell's team? Got a buddy going to the game there tomorrow so I'm possibly going along. A Friars hockey weekend series between both places could happen.

Have only visited the Tsongas arena once and that may have been 2013 or 2014 and I recall UML was very good then. I’m not sure about the team this year, it sounds like they are struggling a bit. The thing I remember most was the great arena and the terrific vibe though. Their large pep band marched all around the single circular corridor between the lower and upper level seats and that was so enjoyable. Thought that inspirational music and marching was going to make it much more difficult to win the game, but I loved it myself. If they draw a good crowd and still do that it is worth the trip.

Ok Tsongas I kinda know that one, feels like a century ago I was there last but used to go to concerts there a bit. Good information, appreciate that.

BC made a coaching change....PC on the other hand still has the same coaching staff which has been a failure for the last four seasons. Wonder if the PC Basketball program missed the NCAA Tournament for four straight years, they would not keep the coach around.

If that was goodbye Zlax, good riddance. Your last post epitomizes the misinformation, and mean spirited attempt at character assassination you are noted for.

Nice 7-2 win, PC moves up to #9 in the pairwise at the moment. Schimek looked very good - seems to be fully healed after the knee to knee hit way back in the VT series. See you tomorrow at PC.

As far as I'm concerned it was a shutout. Everything after 6-0 didn't happen. PK will be in the building tomorrow.

First time they have scored 4 goals in the first period since January 2019 against Brown. Tonight they go for their first 6 point weekend since November of 2021 against Vermont.

Last night's win moves PC into 4th. Home ice in first HE game and a first round bye. A good place to be.
