The big question is where does the ECACH go next? Some are suggesting rotating the final four on campus sites. Providence was mentioned last September as being interested. Binghamton, Syracuse and Utica have arenas that would be the right size for the tournament. Maybe the new arena in Brooklyn, which will be home to the NBA's New Jersey Nets, will be a place to consider. And, of course, plenty of fans would love to see the tournament moved back to Lake Placid, where it was from 1993-2002 before moving to Albany.

Speaking of Albany, I bet the Times Union Center would love to have it back, too.

To me, the biggest embarrassment was not having the games televised on television. The only way fans could watch the games was to pay for them through America One.
The embarrassment showed itself during Sunday's "NCAA Hockey Tournament Selection Show on ESPNU. There was snippet of a Cornell player. In the opening montage, there was a brief snipped of a Cornell player. There were no highlights of the championship game, either. I guess ESPN didn't want to pay, either.

The only highlights shown came after the East Regional bracket was announced. There were several Union highlights provided by Time Warner Cable Sports-3.

This was a low point for the league. There are some people who think Hagwell should be fired. But remember this, it was the league's athletic directors who told Hagwell to seek a way to get out of Albany. So, they share the blame.

If there is a way the league can buy out the final year of its deal with Atlantic City, do it. It would save the ECACH another possible embarrassment next year.

It felt like 350. I've never seen an emptier rink for a final. Union's fans tried to do their best but there just weren't enough of them to drive out the foggy, damp chill of Atlantic City. It's a depressing, low energy place.

I'm shocked the hall didn't try to let the panhandlers in for free. There's enough there to fill the arena, last time I was there. :eek:

Providence is a fantastic hockey town and the community would support the games. Springfield is another good choice and more middle of the road when it comes to travel.

ECAC needs a host city where there community will show some support, the schools core fans will always travel.

My vote:
1. Providence
2. Springfield
3. Lake Placid

Bottom Line: ECAC must play in hockey cities or town's not at the Jersey Shore.

Not having the ECAC Tournament on TV hurt's the league more than anyone thinks. It will be used against ECAC schools when they recruit. TRUST ME

Has there been anyword from the ECAC on the real reason why there was no TV? Who f'ed up?

Oh, but it's good enough for the NYSPHSAA hockey tournament! :rolleyes:

Complete agreement. I go through it as quickly as possible on my way to Troy. And I still don't like taking the Thruway out there. Too expensive. It's getting close to (but not yet at) the expense level of the Penna Pike.

I'm not sure there is a rink in Coxsackie, but that doesn't necessarily disqualify it. There's no way that this tournament would have drawn less than 5,000 in Albany, Syracuse, or even Bridgeport or Binghamton.

I went to AC and loved the fact that they sold beer at the games. Calmed my nerves was also delighted that the Cornell varsity went to the casinos and they played the jayvees against my beloved crimson. other than than that it's a demonstrably awful place for the tourney i have a seven and five year old and didnt take them as AC could scarcely be less family friendly and it's distant . Upztate NY is the obvious place with six teams and some of the strongest fan bases. Albany is a nice arena and is more centrally located for non NY teams lake placid is a long haul for harvard princeton and brown

Yes, GF loves this tournament, as it should, however, I think that with GF trying to lure an AHL team there on a full-time basis, that if the ECAC was seriously considering the city, the Civic Center may be more than willing to not bid on the basketball tournament. It's a hockey town first and foremost, so I think you would get the casual fans walking up to buy tickets. Plus, you would have the added benefit of not having RPI and Union make it there, as I believe that alot of RPI fans (I can think of at least 10 that I personally know) would travel the 45 minutes to watch this. This should be a real possibility that I think the city and the ECAC should have discussions. Yes, it's not Lake Placid, but you still have the skiing, the shops, the restaurants, hotel rooms, etc... Plus you have an indoor waterpark ten minutes away for the families, and Barry Melrose owns a home in GF, so he can actually know what he's talking about if he announces a tournament game involving an ECAC team.

Make that 12 fans as both my wife and I would definitely go!
For those with somewhat long term memories, they used to play an annual tournament in Glens Falls each year called the Empire Cup which featured RPI, Clarkson, St. Lawrence and Cornell (and I believe Colgate played in it one year replacing St. Lawrence). It was very well attended, not only by reps of the 4 schools, but by the hockey fans of Glens Falls. I would love to see them bring back this tournament which could also have Union and possibly RIT or Canisius or Niagara as fellow NYS schools as replacements. That being said, they could easily move the HS hoops tourney to Albany or Syracuse leaving the GFCC available. And yes, the sight lines are great there and they have just finished renovating the seats there. Sounds good to me...

Do they still make Utica Club beer?

I have had reoccurring nightmare from that stuff and its been 20 years...;)
