Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Interesting note:

Friday night, Eddie DelGrosso hits the post on a five-on-three in the first period. Was probably the Maverick's best scoring chance of the night and really took some wind out of their sails.

Saturday night, Delgrosso hits the post on a power play in the second period and they again don't get a great scoring chance for the rest of the game.

And I do believe both penalties were on # 9 Travis Ouellette!

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Let's just make sure we get a win once we get there.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Winning the first game at the Joe is extremely important. We are lucky to avoid Miami and Michigan. No matter whether we play NMU or OSU, that first game will be the most winnable of the weekend. Ending the season with two losses could do us in.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

It appears that Ferris will play the early game on Friday. The commissioner selects which game will be at which time, and since Michigan is in and can't meet Ferris, UM will play the late game which is being televised by the Big Ten Network. If Miami wins tonight, the early game will be Ferris and NMU, with Miami taking on Michigan at 8 pm. If Ohio State wins, the Buckeyes will play Ferris at 4:35 and NMU and Michigan will play late.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

We definitely need a win at the Joe, preferably two. We're all concerned with the NCAA Tournament, which would be nice, but I would also LOVE to win the CCHA Tournament. FSU has obviously never done that.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Disappointed to see that Ohio State didn't somehow get the upset. Ferris was just AWFUL against Northern earlier this year. But they only need one. They looked great Friday, a bit sloppy on Saturday, but still pulled it off.

Exciting time to be a Bulldog fan for sure. Can't wait until this weekend to go to the Joe.

Boys, here is the PWR predictor

Tinker around with it all you like.

We really need one win in Detroit. Either night will do, but we're in big, big trouble if we get beat both nights.

Agreed. I like our chances against NMU despite our performance against them this season. I just look at the rest of the season as a must win. This final four is going to be interesting. Miami gets the slight edge, but I could see all 4 teams winning this unlike last year when everyone knew Michigan and ND would be playing for the title.

Northern's just the easiest win right now on paper I think. Miami could cost thru a third place game, or be really perturbed about a percieved screwing friday night. And if you get Michigan in the third place game, well, its not a big secret that the NCAA would love to see Michigan in the Frozen Four to help with Ticket sales. Although personally, they probably wouldn't mind seeing Ferris and Northern in the playoff mix as long as Michigan is there as well, right now.

It doesn't much matter what the NCAA people want. Michigan has to win twice or sit out the tourney. No predictor scenario will change it. I think that is a good thing considering how it basically took putting them in a leaky rowboat with a feather duster to finally get their attention. They aren't going to back into the NCAA's, and if they win the CCHA tourney title, no one can claim that the CCHA conspired to make that happen, either. From what I have run on the predictor, if Michigan wins the championship, either NMU or FSU could be out, depending on what either does in the third place game.

All of us (when I say us I mean the fans of any CCHA school not located in AA or EL) need to get over this whiney conspiracy theory horsecrap.

Put steps 1-4 together to complete a sentence, and then ask yourself how many times you've heard or read some dillweed repeat something similar:

1. (insert game official's name here)___________________________

2. (Choose one from list below)
a. Called this penalty
b. Didn't call that penalty
c. Allowed this goal
d. Didn't allow that goal
e. Blew the play dead too soon
f. Didn't stop play soon enough
g. Allowed them to goon it up all night
h. Called us for every ticky-tac thing

3. ...because...

4. (choose one from list below)
a. if UM and/or MSU don't advance to JLA the arena will be empty
b. if UM and/or MSU don't dominate, the CCHA can't get any national press

Who says I'm a fan of a CCHA school? :p

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

So I got bored and went over to CollegeHockeyNews.com to see if they had anything good. After reading in their front page article that Ferris had never won a game in the NCAA tournament I remembered why I stopped going there to begin with.

Earlier this year we put up 43 shots on Stewart and walked away with only 3 goals and a tie and then 51 shots the next night and walked away with a 4-0 loss. Any ideas how we get the puck by this guy?

They need to crash the net, capitalize on Stewart's big rebounds, and get traffic in front of him. Stewart could see 95% of his shots that weekend, and majority of them were taken from the perimeter.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Has anybody been reading everything from the NMU posters? Why are they so confident they will be smoking Ferris State this weekend? The loss, and shootout loss to NMU from Ferris is all they are probably going off. But have they seen the shot charts? 46 - 33 the first night for Ferris. And the second night was 51 - 21.

NMU got outworked by Ferris State the entire weekend, even NMU's coach says so: "We have a lot of respect for Ferris State. We played the twice in their building earlier in the year and in my opinion we were out-played both nights, but Brian Stewart played very well and was able to get us some points. They’re very well-coached, have a ton of talent and a ton of experience."

Their goalie can only take them so far. I think NMU will go home for their 8th time in 9 years. Sorry 'Cats...

Most recently, Ferris State went 4-0 over a very good Nebraska-Omaha team. Northern swept UNO the first series in "November" and got swept most recently at the end of January.

Ferris State has a better record, less goals against, a better penalty kill, Northern has two players to injuries: Billy Smith (arm)
Matt Butcher (knee surgery), and Ferris State's starting goalie has a better GAA (5th in the nation, compared to Northern Michigan's 15th).

As everyone says...History repeats itself. Sorry 'Cats, Dogs will advance.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Northern Michigan's History of being in the CCHA Semi-Final Game:

03/20/2009 Loss 1 vs Notre Dame 2
03/21/2008 Loss 4 vs Michigan 6
03/17/2006 Loss 2 vs Miami 5
03/17/2005 Loss 3 vs Alaska-Fairbanks 6
03/19/2004 Loss 1 vs Michigan 5
03/21/2003 Loss 2 vs FERRIS STATE4
03/16/2002 Loss 1 vs Michigan State 2

Take it for what it's worth.

A lot of it stems from the ugliness of the earlier series I assume, that was about as bad as Ferris looked. I think it is a very evenly matched game that could go either way, it will come down to a few bounces. Stewart seemed to have a lot of rebound control issues, so unlike the last time they played, Ferris MUST get guys in front of the net.

It's the offense that worries me. D has looked pretty good lately, penalty kill has been excellent, and Nagle has been very strong in good. I still can't believe the back-to-back robberies he committed during the Friday UNO game.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

I'm not concerned about what other fanbases have to say, nor am I concerned about past history at the Joe. Neither issue will come into play this weekend.

Believe it or not, I don't even care about winning the CCHA tournament. If we get to the final, we're playing with house money at that point. All that is at stake is an automatic bid, and we can clinch an at-large bid of our own simply by winning one game this weekend. This program has made the NCAA's exactly once in its history. I want the second appearance to happen next weekend. One win will ensure that. Anything more is gravy.

Let's focus on the task at hand, boys.
