Elmira possibly moving to First Arena?

Re: Twist # 357

Re: Twist # 357

why do you want them to lose every game?

The last year and all the shady nonsense involved with all parties had made me not care about the team anymore. I only stuck by last years team because they deserved it, it wasn't their fault. This mess cost us a really good coach.

It's only a matter of time

It's only a matter of time

From the local paper:
ROCHESTER — The Elmira Jackals will play hockey at First Arena this fall, according to an interim agreement reached today outside of court in Rochester. The deal was negotiated in a hallway of the Keating Federal Building in Rochester outside of a U.S. Bankruptcy Courtroom. A hearing set for today was delayed for more than two hours as the sides worked out the agreement. In the deal, Elmira Downtown Arena LLC, the former operator of the arena, has to pay Elm Arena, the future arena owner, $18,000 on the first business day of every month as well as provide insurance for the facility. Elmira Downtown Arena will pay until there's a default or the ECHL season is over or there is confirmation of a reorganization plan through the bankruptcy proceeding.
Anyone wish to predict the over/under on the number of months into the season that the team owner will cease paying rent and the arena owners turn out the lights?

If I were Afr I wouldnt even pay one month. The guy should pay his own **** insurance. I nitpicked what I heard on the news tonight but Afr still wants to be the arena "operator" and from what I understand that is still possible, he just can't flat out own it? It almost seems as much as things change the more they stay the same?

Re: The saga continues

FWIW, I think that The Domes is/are a great venue for hockey... Walking to the rink feels like a journey to the center of the Earth, but in a good way. I love watching games there. It's a Fenway for D-3 hockey, and I hope it's preserved as such.

Not to jump all over you, but I hate Fenway. It smells like a sewer, the seats are uncomfortable and the sight lines are awful.

Blue seats yes, red seats no. But they still need to tear it down and build anew. However its Boston so I think they'll have Fenway's 200th anniversary in 2112.

If they want to replicate the feel and dimensions with a modern park that actually gives people a good view of the game, I think it's a good idea. Even the Yankees built a replica of Yankee stadium.

Aside from the wall color Yankee Stadium looks nothing like the old one, I swear the dimensions down the lines are way shorter, I never remember it being such the hitters paradise.

296 to RF, 301 to left -- 457 to left center and 464 to deep center

The old Yankee Stadium had so much charm. There were the opportunity for cheap homers down the lines, and then you had to crush it to get it out between the bullpens.

Lol...and people wonder why non Yankee fans think that team is overrated. When washed up Andruw jones is hitting 15 homers for you, you know it's the ball park. That place makes Nick Swisher look good and he's nothing to write home about.

COME ON ORIOLES BE OUR SAVIORS!!!!!

The OLD Yankee Stadium - Mantle, Maris, Berra, Horace Clarke, Roy White, Clete Boyer, etc. That ball park. Not the house Lindsay built, and not the new one the taxpayers of NY helped build.

The team can go to you know where?

Actually Jones has 14 home runs. 6 at home and 8 on the road. There goes that theory!

Swisher has 24 homers, 11 at home and 13 on the road, can't blame that on the ballpark either!

It's RIT's fault!

Afr didn't pay one month of his own insurance as it was.

Re: Yet another ...

Santulli not only killed the Arena, he also killed the National Warplane Museum.

Sorry for the delay in posting. Just starting to catch up with things after not reading a post all summer. I believe Santulli also killed a deal to sell the Mark Twain golf course behind the city manager's back a few years ago. Buren thought it was a completed sale to help tackle a deficit the city was facing.

Re: Twist # 357

For a decade, he has been getting help and the concession revenue and still went bankrupt. The AFRs simply did not maximize the huge revenue potential that the Arena presented.

I work with a person who used to work for Arf. His employees were forbidden to talk to the press in any way shape or form, or they would be fired. Anybody that questioned his accounting practices was fired on the spot.

I think he did know how to maximize the revenue. He just lined his pockets with it instead of reinvesting it to make the team better. How he can possibly be claiming bankruptcy...... mind boggling.

Re: Elmira possibly moving to First Arena?

Although I like the place, I don't want to give up our Booster Club "perks" that we currently have. Promise me a reserved seat for all home games, where I want to sit and I might be able to live with that, but, since they (City) charge higher parking fees on "event nights" I can't see paying those idiots extra money just so I can go watch a hockey game, one reason I avoid jackals games. It's free parking any other time at night.
I guess it would bring back those who can't watch a game without a beer in their hand:rolleyes:
Sorry, I'm selfish, I like the fact theat the Domes are close to my home, I can take a half day vacation and get to the game on time, not if they move it downtown I can't.

Besides, scheduleing nightmare IMHO

I doubt we've "Lost" players due to the Domes;)

I just wanted to focus on that last sentance. Maybe "lost" is not the most accurate word, but most definately recruits have choosen other hockey programs based on their rink/facilities as compared to The Domes. The atmospher at Oswego's Campus Center is hard for most other D3 hockey programs to overcome. Newer facility and a huge student section. The First Arena would match up with The Campus Center much better than The Domes does (as much as I hate to admit it).

Santulli and Buren...no use for either

I don't have any problems with how he did the team except for the year he ALMOST hired Glenn Thomaris but his glorious DUI screw up brought Perry Florio aboard. Afr is a smart guy, he knows how to make money.

If you knew too much over there you got canned. I also think Nichols was a problem himself. I have always heard the rec rink was short stafed and he fired people left and right, etc.

Still think the slime city politicians made a phony deal somehow. This whole thing is just fishy. I mean this place avoided an auction. I wish the real trial that was would take place. But no the dumbass county judge ruled infavor of the county basically by dismissing it all. Talk about a conflict of interest!
