Elmira possibly moving to First Arena?

Re: Elmira possibly moving to First Arena?

Elbojpb, I probably drive to more "Away Games" than you do, the extra drive down to Hellmira doesn't faze me, it's a case of me being selfish, which I already stated. Someone has to live close, someone has to drive farther. As long as the Boosters don't get the shaft, I really don't care, 25 yrs, missed only one home game, show us some respect.
My money says it doesn't happen anyway:D

you have my respect

Re: Elmira possibly moving to First Arena?

Interested to hear the thoughts of the some the "Elmira Vets" like Jim32, Don, elbojpb and jconner on this subject.

The only way I would like to see EC move to the DT arena would be under the following conditions:

-EC would need to be the primary tenant (or owner) of the arena. As far as I’m concerned, this should be the deal breaker (or maker?). It seems to me, that the negatives of being a secondary tenant would outweigh the positives. Would being #2 actually enhance the student athlete’s overall college experience vs playing at The Domes?

-General admission seating only

-There needs to be a suitable space for the booster club lounge.

-NO beer, other than what is sold and consumed in the boost club lounge.

I still like watching games at the Domes much better than I do downtown. I know it’s odd, but when I’m at the Domes, I feel like I’m at a hockey game. At the DT arena it feels like I’m merely watching a hockey game.

Re: Elmira possibly moving to First Arena?

I know what you mean about that. Ive never enjoyed watching a hockey game more than "our" perch we sat in for years in rows K and L at the Domes. There is something about that spot that makes it special that i have never been able to replicate in any other arena.

Well said Jim.

Re: Elmira possibly moving to First Arena?

A very reliable source has told me that the notion that Elmira is moving is completely false. The two sides reportedly haven't even been in contact with one another thus far. Could it happen a few years down the road? Perhaps, particularly if the Jackals leave. Until that day, not likely to happen.

Just thought you guys may enjoy the update!

However, i am enjoying this debate for what it's worth. Continue please.

Welll I don't think anyone said it was officially happening. What sparked the conversation was the Chemung County Executive saying he was hoping to open up the talks again between the college and the county on moving into the First Arena to play their games after it was discussed when the arena first opened.

I would agree, I don't see the college getting into anything unless they are the primary tenant.

And Chemung County would never agree to give EC primary tenant rights. 12-16 games per year for the men which would be the most likely to make money. The county would do whatever possible to bring in a professional franchise and get 30+ games per year. Santulli probably thinks the college will jump at a move, they won't.

I agree 100% on this. Ok, you have a choice, fill the arena with 4000+ fans of Larry the Cable Guy, (yes, he's been here twice already) OR, let the College have a hockey game where, even if the fan base doubles have around 3000 fans at less than half the cost for tickets, which do you choose? Remember, a large numer of EC tickets are freebies.

Re: Elmira possibly moving to First Arena?

I would have to assume that my Booster Club ticket money goes to the Booster Club, not the College ticket receipts, times the number of Booster Club members, Parents?

I've gotta think some of that money goes to ticket prices?

I can't imagine you get "free tickets" by paying your booster club dues every year.

What do you get for Booster membership? I wonder why the Boosters don’t try to get ex players to join. If I joined the Boosters and paid a fee wouldn’t some of that money help the program somehow? Or are the Boosters self contained? Its hard to know with all the NCAA rules. My annual Booster fee would probably only cover half the game day bar tab for you guys
:)

You know how it works just as well as anyone ;) I pay for a Booster Club Membership and I get a ticket to every regular season home game, it works out to about $2.50 game, half the door price. How much do the EC students pay? My point is, that there a a lot of free/reduced tickets. I do not want to see us loose the Booster packages, period!
