Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

ABC News digs up video of Mitt Romney admiting in a January 2008 Republican presidential debate that the individual health care mandate he passed in Massachusetts was indeed a tax.

CHARLIE GIBSON: Governor, you imposed tax penalties in Massachusetts...

MITT ROMNEY: Yes, we said, look, if people can afford to buy it, either buy the insurance or pay your own way; don't be free-riders and pass on the cost to your health care to everybody else...

Yup, that's right. THIS is the man who's supposed to be your savior!:D:D:D

bizarre, isn't it? I'm in the camp that thinks it's never going to be repealed, regardless of what Mitt is saying now to attract donations. When it comes down to it, health care under Obama or Romney will look virtually identical.

Of course. But he can use it right now as a terror tactic and a fundraising hammer. It's a normal campaign lie.

The two choices are single payer and this system. In fact, this system was created by Heritage as a stopgap against single payer. But since it has Obama's name on it Romney knows he can tap into Obama Derangement Syndrome by screaming "The End is Nigh"!

What will be really funny is fifteen years from now when the Dems are trying to evolve it to single payer and the GOP is defending it as Motherhood.

The only analysis I've read that makes sense is the Romney is better off just **** about it and hoping conservatives make themselves forget about his role in all of this while rallying against Obama. While that sounds good in theory, I'm sure the Obama campaign already has the ads ready where in Mittens' own words he defends the law's provisions. I don't even think they need to hire a narrator for the ads. Just use his own words verbatim.

Problem is, that only works for voters who think... Romney might still be able to use this to whip his mouth-breathing base into a frenzy and make this a "turnout" election.

Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

his promise to repeal smells like desperation to me; he may figure it's his only chance to gain ground, like McCain selecting Palin as a running mate. The bizarrity really stood out when I tuned into Rush Limbaugh for a few moments and heard the language he was using (screaming) about it: "The biggest fraud ever perpetrated on American people," "Giving the government unlimited powers to do anything they please without any more checks or balances," etc. I think that's the market Romney wants to tap, but people are tired of it in general and he might be better off just leaving it alone and running on jobs.

Thinking people are, but listeners to shows like that never get tired of it. It's their pleasure center. They will go on eating their own filth and bashing everyone outside their ever-shrinking demographic Venn Diagram intersection until they croak.

"mustaches"?

to be fair to the suspects involved, I've never heard Rush claim to be religious though. He is most definitely a secular "conservative".

Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

Rush just told me (just got out of my care where I had the radio on) that I live in a Banana Republic because of the Supreme Court ruling yesterday.

Awesome.

You are a far more patient man than I. I can't listen to that guy for more than a minute without wanting to nuke the entire Confederacy.

I'd lean toward failed nation state over banana republic personally.

I always suspected you were a closet Rusher (or whatever Rush fans are called).

Naah. I listen to him, Hannity, and O'Reilly every once in a while cause it's so hilarious. The level of indoctrination that occurs by avid listeners of those programs is fascinating.

"Dittoheads". He's a Dittohead. As in, "Mega Dittos, Rush! I'm calling to see if this new health care law is more of a sacrilege or is it a fiasco? I'll hang up and listen, thanks."

It would have been a sacrilege for Obama worshippers if it had been struck down.

More commentary that Roberts may have voted so as to try to restore peoples' (read liberals) confidence in the Supreme Court. Funny nobody ever sees liberal justices vote against their normal views to restore the Court's prestige. But, can't expect things to cut both ways.

And while wallowing in your superiority, I presume you're also munching on "skillets."

As opposed to the calm, reasonable, intelligent way the right is responding to it being upheld. :D

When Democrats cut taxes, the GOP says they raised taxes and are Socialists.
When Democrats raise taxes, the GOP says they raised taxes and are Socialists.

So if it doesn't matter to the GOP, it shouldn't matter to anyone else. :D

It's not the ACA that is the problem, it is the clear definition that Congress can tax anything at anytime for any purpose that really concerns me. The only check and balance to that appears to be the veto or the Congressional elections.

If some pundit or media outlet would start focusing on that, I think more of the country would be concerned.

Maybe it was Roberts' way of delivering Congress to the Republicans? ;)

It's the GOP. Their empirical data is faith-based. :D
