no spin from me, that is 100% in that graph and your post. You referred to it as unemployment...then showed a graph of job loss. Those are two related items, but not the same. The graph, and its clever red/blue motif are clearly designed to give the casual viewer the impression that something good has happened since Obama took over.

it depends on whether the viewer would ever suspect that job losses could have continued at the same volume for years...if the viewer thinks that is possible, then it doesn't matter what I type...if the viewer thinks it is not only logical, but obvious that job loss wouldn't be consistent and would spike and then subside then the graph is similar to the one that says global warming has reduced the number of pirates in the world (which is funny)

To claim job losses couldn't be expected to continue ignores the stretches between Sep 53 - Aug 54, Aug 74 - Jun 75, Aug 81 - Feb 83, Jul 90 - May 91 and, Jan 01 - Sep 02. It can happen. When it comes to job/loss growth not all presidents are created equal.

Obviously there are dozens of factors that contribute well beyond the sitting President. UE spiked at 10% in late 2009 and had dropped to 8.2% as of the end of June. Hopefully that trend continues.

That's right. I did refer to unemployment...of which job losses is the driver. From what I'm reading, your saying we don't know if job losses would have subsided without Obama. It is a long discussion point just how much impact the government has on the economy...yet Obama has been in office and instituted many economic policies during a time when the economy stablized and business health/earnings have recovered. That's what can be said.

Likewise, Mookie pretty much said that 'this mess' was not handed to Obama...and inferred that nothing's been accomplished under Obama. The graphs both show neither of those to be true.

sure. and if carter didn't come in on the heels of Whip Inflation Now! and right after vietnam where our nation didn't want to have anything to do foreign wise and that didn't embolden foreigners to think they could take over an embassy -- he coulda been a great president.

Progressive income tax rates have been widely and generally accepted by most people for a long time, and I haven't heard anyone suggest otherwise.

That's because the current tax code excludes a lot of income. The 2nd (underground) economy is huge. The question becomes do you want to tax it, too? Some argue that the underground economy fuels the 1st economy and to disrupt it screws everything up.
