Anyway, a 4th poll came out this week showing Warren over Brown by 5 points. Not a too signficant lead but Brown's campaign has been built somewhat around the aura that he will inevitably be re-elected. This is the first time he's confronted a spate of negative polls instead of a one off here or there. Interesting to see how his campaign reacts.

Interesting in the last week that polls in the OH, FL, WI, VA, and MA senate races have all moved Democrats way. Now this I'm sure partly is a result of the Mittster's struggles of late, but still. Sounds like in WI Thompson is broke and has been off the air until he replentishes his funds (not sure where Rove & co is to help him out in the meantime). Brown is dealing with Dems coming home to the ticket post convention and OH and FL are weak GOP candidates anyway. VA is interesting though. Two polls put Kaine up in high single digits while one had a tie.

I think it's a case of a few bad apples leading the charge and getting all the press, and everyone else following along with them but slipping through the cracks in the eyes of the voters.

Don Young (R) has been representing AK in the House for decades, but he hasn't done anything too off the reservation lately and doesn't get his name splashed around in the papers all the time, so people tend to think he's doing a passable job. Eric Cantor and John Boehner, on the other hand...

I, too, call for a Congressional Investigation. Teddy is fast. Teddy is furious. Teddy goes left when the group goes right and right when the group goes left. Sometimes he follows the group. He's led, and then from behind. He smiles all the time -- in good times and bad. Teddy is the man.

Nats magic number to clinch the playoffs is 1.

Met one of our candidates for state senate this morning. I give her props for showing up at the train station at 5:45 in the morning!

I don't know if it is new or not; I notice more and more business people running for office against incumbents. I guess it is a <strike>Albert Finney</strike> Peter Finch* Network moment: "we're mad as h e l l and aren't going to take it any more!"

I know Handyman thinks he's too smart to learn anything useful from fables, despite the fact that fables have been used for millenia as a tool to pass down wisdom from one generation to the next....the story of the goose that laid the golden eggs, getting slaughtered, keeps coming to mind.

The only people getting eggs from the goose are making 250 a year plus anyway, so what's your point?

Hey give the Boston Herald credit. They came to Brownie's defense and put out their own poll that mysteriously had him leading Warren by 4 points. I hear they wanted to make it 14 points but were talked out of it by the Brown campaign. ;)

WHAT?!?!?!? That was Peter Finch! Won the Oscar for that -- and died before receiving it! You'd think in a political forum we could expect some accuracy!

Senators should worry about what they can do for their state - they are their ambassadors to the federal government (Hence when they are addressed in chambers - the Senator from ____________, never by name).

Foreign policy is confined to confirming <strike>campaign donors</strike> ambassadors and exercising thumbs up/down on treaties.

About the Brown-Warren debate. Its amusing that the Herald has all Brown won headlines while the Globe is Warren all the way. Usually papers try to hide who they're rooting for a little better than that.

Its funny because watching the debate I thought both candidates stuck to the script and did what they needed to do. Far from coming off as a dumb @ ss, Brown was on point with his central argument of I'm Mr. Bipartisan and isn't that what everybody wants? He did launch several personal attacks on Warren but he needs to do that as the only way he wins this race is if it becomes a personality contest. Warren didn't take the bait though. I thought he was strongest on the defending insurance co's in an asbestos lawsuit thing. I have no idea what he's talking about, but her lack of response makes me believe he's onto something. Worst was the Native American thing. Next time he does that she's going to blast him with the "I've met with Kings and Queens" comment made multiple times.

Regarding Warren, I was concerned she'd get too preachy but she did a good job. Mass Dems often struggle in debates because they're not used to fielding questions from the right, only from the left. She also brought home her biggest selling point, which is a vote for Brown is a vote for a Republican Senate. Brown countered the standard and appropriate comeback that she's running against him, not the GOP Senate but that's not 100% true. She also correctly tied herself to Obama while Brown I'm sure wishes Mitt Romney didn't exist. He never mentioned him but spent considerable time praising Hillary Clinton's job a Sec of State. Makes you wonder why he's backing Romney then.

I give him a pass on this. I'm sure Dem Govs Mike Beebe (AR), Steve Beshear (KY), Jay Nixon (MO), and Earl Ray Tomblin (WV) quickly change the subject whenever Obama comes up.

The only other entertaining thing was Harry Reid's balls dropping temporarily.

Brown: "I dunno if I can make this debate. Senate business and all, you know."
Reid: "Yeah, we're done for today. You can go."
Brown: "...."

I'm sure they've been sucked back up into whatever pouch he hides them in when Republicans are beating him.
