Elections 2012: Congressional and Gubernatorial

Re: Elections 2012: Congressional and Gubernatorial

To want to give the gubmint over to the Republicans in this election is to suspend your understanding of reality. Obama had many missed opportunities during the debates but the biggest one was not hanging Itch McConnell's statement about his highest priority being Obama a one term President around Mittens' neck. How exactly are you supposed to reach across the aisle with an attitude like that waiting for you? While perhaps The Boner could have been more willing to negotiate, he has little power over that caucus as the debt negotiations proved. The Cantor-Ryan axis of lunacy rules the roost and their cooperation doesn't exist.

If Obama gets elected (I seriously doubt he will) the Republican party is going to have a lot to answer for given their actions the last (4) years.

Re: Elections 2012: Congressional and Gubernatorial

We'll have to agree to disagree. Obama and the Dems spent a lot of political capital trying to work with Republicans. For you to overlook that just comes off as you appearing to be hyper-partisan...which I didn't think you were. I guess I was wrong.

It seems to me there is a very significant difference between trying to "work with" someone and insisting that someone must do things your way. I don't think I'm "overlooking" anything; as I recall neither the Democrats nor Obama would ever include a Republican idea.

The best example is probably the Simpson Bowles Commission and its recommendations. Obama calls for this commission and then totally ignores all of their recommendations.

In 2009 and in 2010 he had 60 Democrat votes in the Senate and a huge majority in the House, yet we've had no federal budget enacted for over three years. You can't blame Republican obstructionism for the lack of a budget resolution being passed.

I don't think I'm being partisan here especially as I have no use for either major party and to me career politicians of both parties are the single biggest barrier to effective governmental reform. I am partisan to the extent that I despise both parties, so there is that...:)

Re: Elections 2012: Congressional and Gubernatorial

What planet are you living on? Name ONE compromise that Obama proposed that the Bone Man and Mitch would agree to. I'll give you a hint. The answer is nada.

That's right, we agree completely. Obama did not propose any compromises, he said "it's my way or the highway."

How conveniently we forget! Obama and Boehner did reach a compromise, $2 trillion in spending "cuts" and $900 million in new revenue. Then, at the last minute, Obama asked for an additional $400 million in revenue and it was only then that the talks collapsed. He had the agreement he said he wanted, and then he torpedoed it.

Was he ever serious in the first place? I sure hope so, I'm not one to say that he deliberately cratered the talks merely to make the Republicans look bad. That would be immature, spiteful, mean, irresponsible and foolish. We all know how noble and principled Obama is, right? Clearly he demonstrates that.....

BS. He compromised on the Health Care bill by a huge magnitude. He compromised on the debt ceiling. He compromised on the stimulus. He compromised on everything. Bone Man and Mitch never compromised on anything.
