ECAC Hockey Finales Will Not Be Televised

Re: ECAC Hockey Finales Will Not Be Televised

Yeah MSG is booked and double booked solid this time of year.

Just look at the past week:

3/6 BE Tournament all day
3/7 BE Tournament all day
3/8 BE Tournament all day
3/9 BE Tournament at night
3/10 BE Tournament at night
3/11 Knicks Game during day, Rangers Game at night
3/13 Rangers Game
3/14 Knicks Game
3/15 Rangers Game
3/16 Knicks Game
3/17 Rangers Game
So what you're saying is if we move the final weekend to a quadruple-header on Monday, it would work?

Re: ECAC Hockey Finales Will Not Be Televised

Anyone who has been to the ECAC's in Placid knows it is by far the best venue. We've talked about this until we were blue in the face !

L.P. is a good spot because the fans, scouts etc fill the town and give it a nice atmosphere. The main issue for most is the difficulty in getting there, especially if there is weather, and the ice surface. The last I knew, most of the coaches didn't like playing on the big ice.

The Times-Union Center is a great hockey building, but just too big for the corwds the ECAC currently attracts for the tournament. some more effort on marketing the tourney and the city by the city, county and the league might help that, but getting RPI back near the top of the league is the best remedy for these bad crowds.

Re: ECAC Hockey Finales Will Not Be Televised

What's the ice size in AC ??

Given there's no difference in the chemical make-up of water between the two locations, I'd recommend taking some water, freezing it, and you'd have your answer.

You've asked this in at least 3 different threads. You're starting to become more annoying than me. I realize this is an accomplishment, but it's not one to be proud of. ;)

Just trying to get an answer. No one is as obnoxious as you !

Re: ECAC Hockey Finales Will Not Be Televised

Quick google search of Boardwalk Hall ice size gives me 85x200
Correct, it's a standard sized sheet. There was a problem last year with temperature. The building was warm inside and the ice was soft. They had a couple of kids with big squeegies trying to move the water after the Zamboni was done because it wasn't freezing fast enough.

Re: ECAC Hockey Finales Will Not Be Televised

I think I'm the only one looking forward to Atlantic City this weekend.

Hockey, Drinking, AND Gambling??? Yes please. There are things to do during the day and PLENTY to do at night after the hockey games. It's easy for me to get to (I'm driving down from Manhattan) and it gives a large group of us Union 2010 alums an excuse to have a reunion weekend.

I'd take MSG or the new Barclays Center instead followed by Albany.

For the youngin's, sure AC is a great place. But for the people in their late 30's, 40's, 50's and beyond, AC ends up not having as much to offer. In this economy, most older people have become pretty tight with money (for good reason), so gambling would likely be out of the picture, it's an unnecessary risk.

We can all argue our own favorite venues, but unless a minor miracle happens and the ECAC somehow swings the Barclay's Center for an experiment, there aren't really more than 3-4 sub-par viable options. (Providence, Bridgeport, Albany, Lake Placid, maybe Springfield/Worcester).

I didn't attend AC last year, so this will be my first go at it. My major issue with it is the location. I know I was spoiled from 2003-2010 with the tourney being 20 minutes from my garage, but the Albany location makes the most sense because it's the most centrally-located among all of the schools. The longest drive is an almost 4-hour jaunt from Canton, NY (SLU) and you could turn that into 3.5 hours easily. Atlantic City is 4.5 hours from Albany.

We'll see how it goes, but I think no matter what schools show up, attendance is always going to be difficult to maximize because the majority of the schools don't travel with large contingents. Cornell, Clarkson, RPI, SLU, & Colgate are the only schools that seem to generate a crowd wherever the tournament has been held.

I agree that the Albany location makes the most sense because of the location. The only issue I have is the arena is way too big. Now if the NYS high school basketball tournament moves to Syracuse in 2014 freeing up the GFCC, I think that could be an ideal location. Its only 45 mins north of Albany and easy to get to. The civic center holds about 4800 so the place should be filled close to capacity and also has some great sightlines. Theres plenty of things to do close by like shopping, an indoor waterpark, skiing, etc... and LP is only an hour and half away if your a fan of that area.
