hey. wait. I've been saying that for years. most of them are actors in "reality" shows. all the yelling screaming heated debate - put on for the cameras. Michael Moore - Sean Hannity are close friends. Rush Limbaugh laughs all the way to the bank. as does Jon Stewart, Bill Maher and Stephen Colbert. no way can you copyright it. I'll sue. :)

I'm not in favor of the state mandated isolating of people who have the flu, but I don't think you can separate ebola from the conversation simply because it's the virus du jour.

But like thousands in the US have died...errr...hundreds in the US have died...wait dozens have died in the US...ok well more than zero have died!! I bet more people die of The Plague this year in the US than Ebola...

What I'm saying is that while flu is a very real threat for a subset of population, it's not for the vast majority of us. I know I could get the flu this year. And I'll be miserable for awhile. But I also know the odds are extremely strong it won't kill me.

Most people think the same way. And they are right. That's why there is not the call for quarantines you see with Ebola.

I think the fact that a couple of people have been infected with the disease in this country, and have survived, is extremely positive. Once people see that with good medical care exposure to this virus isn't the same as a bullet to the head, the panic will die off considerably.

Not to worry - if the laissez faire attitude rules the day, I'm sure we'll get your wish of many more ebola cases to experiment on....

If you're afraid of Ebola vote Republican. They won't fund the CDC or research for a cure, but they'll quarantine everyone for you.

Can we get to double digits before you start interning people at least? Vince Neil has killed as many people as Ebola in this country. More people probably die falling down the stairs daily than have died by Ebola in this country since it was discovered. Not everyone with a fever is gonna start bleeding out of their eyeballs.

And I love your "laissez faire" comment...but you arent fear mongering NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Ebola forbid we actually wait for some proof of the coming pandemic before we start freaking out and stuff. I mean if it could happen in the movie Outbreak...

If Ebola were as contagious as you seem to think, we'd have had a world wide pandemic decades ago.

Unless you're handling bodily fluids of the sick, dying, or dead, your odds of getting Ebola are approximately on par with winning the power ball jackpot tomorrow.

We're talking about a much larger subset of the population that could potentially get the flu and die from it though. As evidenced by the fact that more people contract it and some have actually died from it.

There was a terrific radio program on BBC this morning about pandemics and historical efforts to prevent or contain them. Especially fascinating is the story of the eradication of smallpox. I believe the show was called "Inquiry." I'll try to find a canned version of it on the Beeb, because I think everyone would benefit from listening to it.
