Dump Term 2, 1.01: Sleep Now in the Fire

I like this plan.

All members of Congress who oppose Trump—Democrats, Independents, and whatever Republicans haven’t capitulated—should come to the Capitol at the appointed time. They should have with them a laminated print of that infamous photo from Helsinki, where Trump follows behind Putin subserviently. They should tape the photo to the back of the chair. And as soon as Trump begins to speak, they should all walk noisily out, so that the cameras pan to empty chairs and scores of copies of that embarrassing photo. I wouldn’t object to a crisp “Pu-tin sucks!” chant.

Then, every member of Congress who opposes Trump should repair to his or her office and do a livestream, giving the same speech: a real State of the Union (or State of the Oblast, as it were). This way, every single opposition leader is doing must-see counter-programming simultaneously, to drown out Donald’s hateful lies.

Shocking. I hope the idiots on the business channels start hammering the cause as Orange Dip****.
They will blame it on Biden's Inflation, the possible wars that are inching towards inevitability and Democrats not willing to sacrifice their ideals for the good of American Business. Then they will attack Canada, Mexico and Europe for daring to not just do what we say.

They love Trump...even the ones who pretend not to like Andrew Ross Sorkin (who believes Jamie Dimon is a friggin hero) love Trump and will never truly blame him.

Republicans: Biden's Inflation is killing the average American and they can't afford to live this way!!

Also Republicans: Americans are willing to pay more for Trump's policies.

Who will tell them it’s Trump’s fault? Certainly won’t be the news media they consume.
Things will likely start to turn when the real desperate prayers to daddy on social media go unanswered. When “I’m going to lose my house! plz help!” gets no response, bad things are going to happen in this country.

And they'll still blame it on Biden and the Democrats.
As much of meme as this is, cracks are already starting to appear. You can see it at the town halls that Republicans are avoiding. Couple that with an attitude shift by Democrats to one with no empathy, reality has better chance to sink in. Granted, not all of them will get it.

Yeah except all those whiners still won't vote Dem and you know it. Dems are evil. Until that changes those townhall are rather meaningless.

Probably already been said. If it has I will apologize. But, I just saw on the TV that Susan Collins is concerned about Ukraine.

Don’t need them to vote Dem. Pushing them to a point where they don’t vote at all is good enough.

The one thing I think people forget is that the lie has to be believable to work.

You can convince people that the economy is bad when it’s doing good by focusing on certain factors.

You can convince people COVID isn’t a big deal when the death rates are low.

It’s hard to convince people “everything is fine!” when they’ve lost their jobs and are losing their homes.

And when they start seeing through the lies, the reality you’ve built for them starts to unravel.

Yes. This is certainly possible. But as 2018 showed us, many of them didn’t show up and Democrats rolled to victory…we didn’t need this kind of fuckass shit happening for them not to show up…so it’ll be a Pyrrhic victory, if Democrats indeed roll in the 2026 midterms. That said, yes, I still want us controlling the House so we can stop the reconciliation nonsense Republicans will push through this Congressional session. As a country, we’ll be lying on the floor from multiple gunshot wounds at that point. Democrats controlling the House means we won’t get shot anymore.

If you give people someone to blame you are fine. Jews were 1% of the population of Germany in '33.

People are lazy, they want someone to blame that doesn't involve choices of their own.

Hell a lot of voters still think COVID was bs and Biden screwed everything up not Trump...even when they know people who died.

They can still blame Biden for COVID because not enough people died, it never got truly bad. Just inconvenient. Same thing with 2008, it never got bad enough where the lies seemed ridiculous.

If (well, when at this point) the country goes into full blown depression, the entire game changes.
