Duluth hockey fans warned after racist chants

Re: Duluth hockey fans warned after racist chants

What part of "It doesn't make it right, and it doesn't absolve anyone from thinking for themselves, but the nickname is contributing to the problem and it needs to go" was unclear?

Of course. No means yes. You're perfectly clear.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which the unskilled suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a met cognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes.[1]

Actual competence may weaken self-confidence, as competent individuals may falsely assume that others have an equivalent understanding. As Kruger and Dunning conclude, "the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others"

It looks like you think you're hot stuff, but I'm just not sure.

Re: Duluth hockey fans warned after racist chants

Certainly not along the lines of small pox blanket chants... but equally classless.

Re: Duluth hockey fans warned after racist chants

Agreed. Classless but not even close to the garbage from the UMD faithful...I haven't read the entire 235 pages of this thread but loved in the newspaper article that the Duluth fan who has had season tickets since 1955 didn't hear anything negative...hmmmmm...the guys about 80 years old, what did he hear? :)

From everything I've heard, it was a small number of fans. IMO, stupid college kids did stupid things. Whee. The "justification" reasons (no nickname, no chants) is what really irks me. There is no legit excuse, no legit reason, to brush off these chants. None. Be the better person. The whole "two wrongs don't make a right" stance.

Pfft. I've heard from people a section over Who are in their twenties who didn't hear it.

Agreed. Thank you.

Re: Duluth hockey fans warned after racist chants

Whatever your reactions are to her, you've given her exactly what she wanted: attention.

I don't think she actually cares if she persuades anyone or wins a single argument about anything, just as long as a bunch of nameless strangers on a message board fawn over her in some fashion. It's really quite sad, actually.
