I believe they would have. And people would have just made fun of them not having a nickname.

People will also make up silly rationalizations to justify whatever they want and other people will take these silly rationalizations seriously.

you mean how it's ok to have a hostile and abusive mascot, as long as you say it isn't really a mascot, even though it is??

She justified/excused the horrible chants (which she said was horrible, don't get me wrong) because of the logo. That's just insane.

And that is exactly why people want those logo/MASCOTS/nicknames gone.
