Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

So. This is the situation where the playercannot come out until a whistle?
Statkeeping error. Note the penalty is listed as over AFTER the goal is score. The reason it's a SHG is because the software recognized that the penalty should have been over based on time of the goal. But the penalty was released after the goal, as seen below, and before the next faceoff. Seems like they played it like a PPG, releasing the penalty after the goal. Really strange. And obviously incorrect.

[04:31] Penalty on Hailey Adair UWS 2 minutes for UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT.
[04:31] Major Penalty on Meredith Ingbretson UWSP 5 minutes for CHECKING FROM BEHIND.
[04:31] Game Misconduct Penalty on Meredith Ingbretson UWSP 10 minutes for GAME MISCONDUCT, Jamie Ertl serving the penalty.
[06:39] GOAL by UWSP Betsy Anderson, On ice for UWSP: Betsy Anderson; Allie Tanzer; Josie Johnson; Ava Plamondon, On ice for UWS: Haley Olmstead; Kelsey Firkus; Pamela McLeod; Alison Shrift.
UW-Stevens Point 2, Wis.-Superior 2
[06:31] Hailey Adair (UWS) penalty complete.

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Also, based on the statkeeping software, assuming it's the same as what we used to use, you have to manually release the penalty after two minutes.

Two ways for that goalie to have been labeled a SHG is for the statkeeper to have released the penalty prematurely. Which, yes, would be a statkeeping error or or the goal to not actually have been scored at 6:39. Perhaps time on the clock was 13:39 or something and it was input improperly, with the correct minutes but wrong seconds? Who knows.

Possible the girl just didn't leave the box for some reason? Who are the sources/how do we know it was still even?

I wasn't in the arena but I was watching it on the webcast. The time of the goal is wrong. It wasn't that far into the 4x4. The announcer was just finishing up announcing the penalties when they scored. I then clearly saw Adair sitting in the penalty box for around a minute after the goal was scored. When you look at the play by play on the UWS box score...I'm guessing the goal was at 5:39 not 6:39. That would clear up that out of order sequence of events.

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Concordia/Moorhead 3 St. Catherines 0 Concordia has secured the 4 seed in the MIAC and will host St Catherines next Friday.

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

In last regular season game, Plattsburgh Lady Cardinals up 2-0 over Oswego end of first period.

No scoring in the second. Still 2-0 at the end of two. If it comes to the ECAC's joke of a tiebreaker, how do they decide which team calls the coin toss?

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Concordia/Moorhead 4 St Catherines 0. The Cobbers school record 8th shutout of the season.

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

For the first time in 10 years Gustavus will not be the regular season champs in the MIAC after losing to Bethel 1-0 in the final regular season game. St Thomas are the new champs after sweeping St Bens.

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Plattsburgh won the coin toss and will host ECAC West playoffs.

Man, and I thought they won the toss and elected to receive! What a stupid way to decide a title. I think it was foreseeable that those four tiebreakers wouldn't be enough to separate Plattsburgh and Elmira. I hope the ECAC (publicly) updates its procedures for next season.

Coin toss??? Come on. Plattsburgh led Elmira in all categories (except head to head where they tied)...both In-Conference, Overall Records, Wins, GF, GA, Win %age, etc...to risk losing host privileges by a coin toss is a travesty. Why not Rock/Paper/Scissors....geesh!

I agree it should have gone to Plattsburgh. Thankfully the coin fell that way.

They share the title.....coin flip was for hosting playoffs.

It's nice that OT vs. regulations wins are weighted, but at the very least for this scenario, they needed to be weighted in head-to-head, not just within the conference. That would have eliminated the coin toss and given Elmira top seed.

But doing that would then render Elmira's OT win over Oswego as equal to Platty beating Elmira in OT, which based on standings shouldn't be the case either. You guys all are certainly right. They play the same teams. Take it to goal differential.

I did know it was for playoff hosting, but thanks for the bolded correction, mn. Anyway, I don't like goal differential because it encourages running up the score on the bottom teams. I prefer least goals given up in conference play. Just my $.02...

SO Middlebury goes down today in the NESCAC quarterfinals. So now does a Middlebury team ousted in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC tourney going to beat out a WIAC team that loses in their conference championship game?

Yes.

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

I'm not so sure...Assuming its River Falls or Stevens Point....the WIAC team will have a higher winning %, better results against ranked, I would argue better SOS...plus it might be the first time that the EAST gets bit by the "if we put middlebury in, we will have to fly someone" bug
