Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Superior and Stevens POint in OT again (Point just hit the goal post!)

St Thomas gets the split beating Gustavus 2-1

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Superior/Point ends in a tie. Superior really needed that one.

Looking like a crazy last weekend in the MIAC next week.

Gustavus/St Thomas tied for 1st. Bethel most likely 2 pts back. St Thomas definitely cheering for Bethel next weekend (as will I!)

Two entertaining games in Superior this weekend. Point needed to pick up 3 points, but fell short by 1. I thought Point was the better team both games, but Superior did a good job of mucking things up and keeping Point from scoring. Point was skating this weekend without one of their D due to injury, but #18 did manage to be credited with a -1-- must have been for not opening the door fast enough. (Don't get me started on how awful statistics are in this league -- they are worthless.)

Superior had 3 players helped off the ice in today's game -- I hope they are okay. I assume RF will take the top spot in the WIAC next weekend, which will set up a rematch between Point and Superior in the first round of the tournament at Point. Looking forward to another exciting series.

Concordia/Moorhead 4 St. Marys 0

Cobbers on a 9 game unbeaten streak and secured a spot in the MIAC playoffs.
Streak ends at 9 with St Marys 2-0 win. Now it's St Catherines at home and the Cobbers need 1 point to secure 4th and a home playoff game against St Catherines. St. Catherines wins Friday then Saturdays game will be intense.

according to the boxcore, she was out of the box and it as a SH goal

She wasn't out of the box, and it wasn't a short handed goal. It was an even-strength goal, and that, I believe, was why the Superior player was not released from the box. Just another example of the inaccurate stats kept in this league--they are totally unreliable!

Stats aren't accurate in the MIAC either I have noticed.

Yeah...that box score is wrong. As dedicatedfan stated, the goal was during the 4x4. I'd have thought that since the other penalty was a major...they wouldn't reward the pointers with extended even strength once they had scored on the 4 on 4. But hey...that's logical isn't it??

So curiosity gets the best of me....I don't understand which stats are wrong? The time of the penalties, or the time of the goal?

3rd Period (20:00)
WSP-3 Meredith Ingbretson (5-Checking from Behind) WSR 1x3 4:31
WSP-4 Meredith Ingbretson (10-Game Misconduct) 4:31
WSR-3 Hailey Adair (2-Unsportsmanlike Conduct) 4:31
WSP 2-2 5x6 SH GT Betsy Anderson (1) (unassisted) 6:39

WSR-Adair is out of the box at 6:31, and thus WSP is shorthanded at 6:39 when WSP-Anderson scores; WSP-Ingbretson (or the player serving the 5 minute major for her, as I assume she has been sent to the locker room due to the game misconduct) is in the box until 9:31.

Even strength is even strength regardless of the nature of penalties.

If you look at the box score on Superior's website (http://uwsyellowjackets.com/boxscore.aspx?path=whockey&id=849) it indicates Superior had a 3-minute power play from 6:31 to 9:31. So either the people on here saying it was an EV goal didn't realize the Superior penalty was over, or it was and everything was kosher.

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Also, based on the statkeeping software, assuming it's the same as what we used to use, you have to manually release the penalty after two minutes.

Two ways for that goalie to have been labeled a SHG is for the statkeeper to have released the penalty prematurely. Which, yes, would be a statkeeping error or or the goal to not actually have been scored at 6:39. Perhaps time on the clock was 13:39 or something and it was input improperly, with the correct minutes but wrong seconds? Who knows.

Possible the girl just didn't leave the box for some reason? Who are the sources/how do we know it was still even?

Statkeeping error. Note the penalty is listed as over AFTER the goal is score. The reason it's a SHG is because the software recognized that the penalty should have been over based on time of the goal. But the penalty was released after the goal, as seen below, and before the next faceoff. Seems like they played it like a PPG, releasing the penalty after the goal. Really strange. And obviously incorrect.

[04:31] Penalty on Hailey Adair UWS 2 minutes for UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT.
[04:31] Major Penalty on Meredith Ingbretson UWSP 5 minutes for CHECKING FROM BEHIND.
[04:31] Game Misconduct Penalty on Meredith Ingbretson UWSP 10 minutes for GAME MISCONDUCT, Jamie Ertl serving the penalty.
[06:39] GOAL by UWSP Betsy Anderson, On ice for UWSP: Betsy Anderson; Allie Tanzer; Josie Johnson; Ava Plamondon, On ice for UWS: Haley Olmstead; Kelsey Firkus; Pamela McLeod; Alison Shrift.
UW-Stevens Point 2, Wis.-Superior 2
[06:31] Hailey Adair (UWS) penalty complete.
