Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Norwich just announced banner hanging night is October 28th at 7pm prior to the EC/Norwich tilt. The stage is set...10 vs 1

Good to see some new faces other than keeping the same line up, but what happened to Strauss?

In contrast Potsdam squeaks in with 13 skaters...

I understand how the 13 skaters can happen but 28? There are a lot of people on that roster that are a long way from home. Coaches will have to do a pretty good job of managing playing time to keep them all happy.

Norwich had 28 players last year and I'd say things worked out pretty well for them.

Straus just simply decided she had had enough of hockey and returned to Nevada to attend UNLV and pursue her career. They also lost Straus's line-mate Jacobsen due to concussions; and defensive player Fischer to a nagging foot injury. Morgan once again did a great job in recruiting key players to fill the void.

They got hit hard with some NCAA rule, and lost about six players in that process. Clearly a program that is almost starting from scratch as a result. Know several players that play(ed) there. Gotta feel for them, and I hope the program can be resurrected despite this set-back.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

I wasn't aware of that. Full marks to the coach for pulling it off and presumably to the players for buying in.

I agree its probably a tad on the large side, especially for women's hockey. I'd say the optimal number is more like 25 or 26.

But, Norwich made it work and the rest is history.

Prez, what with the banner raising and all, are tickets at a premium for the East/West? Last year they were available on-line?

That is still too many. IMHO an ideal number is about 22-24. For each game you have 2 to 3 that sit and gives you enough variables to fill in for injuries and the like. Remember not too long ago UNH ran with a team of 17 or 18, and IIRC they went to the final four that year.
