Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

So, I think you guys have talked about this before; but, what happens to the Tigers and Red Wings once Mr. I is gone? Do they stay in the Ilitch family?

Also, is Max going to stay with the Tigers?

Personally, I hope the Tigers stay away from Grant Balfour.

1. What happens? Well...I don't know if they keep both the Wings and Tigers. Since the Ilitch Holdings team is bent on a new ice arena, that would be my guess if they had to make a choice. The Tigers are probably the more attractive commodity right now, though.

2. Yes.

3. Definitely. I'd rather go after Nathan. Rodney already had his tour here. The others... pffft.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Marian Ilitch cannot own the Tigers as long as she has ownership of Motor City Casino. She is already part-owner of the Red Wings. I think you can see where this is headed...

I forgot about the MC Casino thing. Yeah, that pretty well sews it for me. That should make FA decisions much clearer this winter for the Tigers, too.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Fox Sports writer is reporting that the Tigers are interested in Brian Wilson. That comes on the heels of the Tigers mutual interest with Joe Nathan.

Don't you just love the "throw it on the wall and see what sticks" reporting??

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Yuck. I'll pass on Wilson. Just sign Nathan for two years and go get two more bullpen arms.

Wally Joyner named hitting coach.

Omar Vizquel named 1st base coach.

Done deal, looks like.

Reportedly Rangers eat ALL of Fielder's contract.
