Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

That's more like it. Big Max does the job and the guns produce. Don't like the 9th inning with Valverde, but a win is a win. Coming home 1-1 with Verlander on the hill.

Nice win by Detroit today. Scherver was incredibly good, Detroit got good hitting when they needed it after the early 2 run homer, and they did enough to win. Got exciting at the end for those of us who stayed in the stadium, really felt like a walk-off was in the cards, but Valverde got Cano to ground out. We'll see what happens in the battle of the aces part 1.5 tomorrow night.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Well, then. JV is not off to the start we had in mind.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Okay, it looks like the umpire is going to make orange juice tonight.

And Santiago needs to do a better job of running through the bag at 1st.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

We make CC throw 28 pitches in the 1st inning....and come away with nothing to show for it. Let's not make a habit of that, boys.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

That was one hell of an at bat out of Santiago there to get us on the board. At least 9 pitches after going 0-2.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

That's not what I had in mind to tie the game, Miggy.

2-2 <strike>in the</strike> through 3.

Go Detroit!

The Twins get chopped up everytime they face the Yanks. I hope you guys have better luck.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Good grief. Verlander froze Swisher to end the 5th. Swisher had to pull his jock off of his forehead after that pitch.

2-2, mid 5. Verlander being Verlander.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Had Inge done more of this in the regular season, we wouldn't have needed Windmill Willie Betemit.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

I thought the Homer Light was coming out for a moment there. RBI double for Santiago.

3-2, bottom 5, 1 out.

We are through 5, not 6. Pitch counts through 5:

Sabathia: 97 or so
Verlander: 59

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Somewhere the ghosts of Ty Cobb and Hank Greenberg caused that odd bounce in left field to allow Kelly to score.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Verlander was cruising until he got 2 strikes on Posada, and then ****ed around too long with him. A walk, an HBP later, and a shot to left center, and we're tied. Goddammit.

He was at ~ 85 pitches, and just like that, he's over 100.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

I know the pitch count is only 101, but I wonder how much Verlander has left, given that he pitched in a monsoon Friday night.

DELMON!!!

5-4, bottom 7

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

That's going to draw a column from Henning, crying about the fences for about the 1,893rd time.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

The velocity is still there, but the control is going.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Holy high strike, Batman. That hasn't been called all night.........or since about 1971, for that matter.
