Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Okay. We're less than an hour from first pitch.

To me, the key for the Tigers is pretty obvious. Verlander and Fister must pitch like they have the past two months. We're in a 5-game series. The pitching must deliver at least two wins from the Verlander and Fister starts, or we're dead. Those two can start a maximum of 3 games in this series. 2 of 3 from them and then split between Scherzer and Porcello. The math is pretty simple, and it depends on the big two.

P.S. Jhonny Peralta is batting 8th. Ryan Raburn is hitting 7th tonight and playing 2B. Umm, yeah...................

Peralta's 1 for 17 with 5k vs. Sabathia.

Of course, Leyland throws Raburn (.174) and Inge (.190) out there instead of Santiago (.293) and Betemit (3 for 5), so who farking knows.

Not exactly confident with this lineup.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

That's fine that Peralta gets dropped down in the lineup, but.......Ryan Raburn. You watch. He'll field a grounder near the bag at 2nd and somehow hit Verlander in the eye socket with the ball while trying to throw the batter out at first. If you want to find a way to * things up, Raburn's the guy to do it.

DELMON!!!

1-0, top 1.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

It's nice to get the early lead, but I generally don't like what happens when we only come up with a single run in the 1st.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Starting to rain at the stadium. Get ready for a long evening, boys.

I suggested elsewhere based on the early weather predictions that they start Penny tonight and bring Verlander in the 2nd or 3rd after the rain delay.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

We might see the tarp after the 1st.

Verlander struggling early.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

A ball hit to Raburn, and 5 runs don't score as a result. Progress, I suppose.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Tarp.

I'm not going to get on Raburn for taking a pitch right down Broadway to end the 2nd. He would have had to swing through 2 feet of water if he wanted to hit it.

Get comfy, boys.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

I'm looking forward to Brad Penny coming out in 98 minutes after the delay ends as our long relief since you don't send your starter back out after a certain point.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

If Brad Penny comes out to pitch the 2nd, I'm hiding in a bomb shelter.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

I had someone ask on another board if there would be a doubleheader tomorrow if they rained out tonight.

Don't they push these things like 6-7 hours before they're willing to even considering calling a game? I vaguely remember a Rangers-Yankees game in the 90's in a delay forever just shy of being official.

It's not unusual. I don't have any problem if they do just that.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

I'd start planning on a rain-out tonight.

Jimmy, Girardi, Cashman, Dombrowski, the umpires, and Joe Torre are in a meeting as I bang on this keyboard.

it sure as hell isn't letting up any here at the stadium, that's for sure. Fair amount of standing water around the warning track too.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Postponed, per Joe Torre.

Game will pick up tomorrow evening, at the bottom of the 2nd.

Game 2 is Sunday at 3:07.
