7-1 final.

Verlander wins #18.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

This is nice, really nice, but Martinez right there just showed us that we need to bring up a 3rd catcher, and soon. He's not ready to catch, and we can't burn Avila out.

So...that's how Inge gets to play in September. Heh.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Psh who needs Inge, after all, Don Kelly is the only active player to have fielded every position in his career :p.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Brad Penny. 7th inning. You know what comes next.

I don't know how many times Marlboro Jimmy thinks he needs to needledick around with him and **** away games in the 7th inning. Penny is a 6-inning pitcher at this point in his career. At best. I don't care if he has a perfecto going with 18 K's through 6. In the 7th, he's done like yesterday's TV dinner. And it bit us in the shorts tonight. That rocket to right-center one batter before that should have been a triple? No, that wasn't a warning sign. Noooooooooo. None whatsoever.

Ruffin to Seattle to close the Furbush-Fister deal.

So it was a Furbush-Fister deal, and Seattle likes it Ruffin. *ducks*

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

You could see that coming a mile away. You don't load the bases with no one out and get away scot-free. Hell, Verlander doesn't even do that.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Good grief. Joe West just rammed it up Scherzer's rear end. That would have got us out of the 7th.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

And eventually Santana comes around to score. Joe West owes Max Scherzer a kiss and a towel.

AVILA!!!

3-1, bottom 7

That looked like a 5-iron into the bleachers.

PERALTA!!!

4-1, bottom 7.

Just like Shannon Hogan's bra. Lifts and separates.

Consecutive pitches.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Andy Dirks sent to Toledo.

Brandon Inge recalled from Toledo. Yes, Brandon Inge. That is not a misprint.

Is it September 1st already? Oh well, I guess all the fanboys & girls will be happy he's back.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

They're calling up the 29 year old Inge that can catch and give Avila a blow, right?

No? It's the worthless 37 year old? He's is going to start at 3rd about 80% of the time? Awesome.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Very nice win tonight. The Tigers definitely need to win this series since Cleveland had caught up to Detroit in the loss column. Granted, winning three out of three games, which Detroit had in hand over Cleveland, is no small feat for anyone in this division, but it's still a little too close for comfort.

Inge? Eh. Maybe a little better fielding at 3B and not really a significant difference at the plate. I can't complain too much since it's not like they're taking a valuable asset out of the lineup for him.

Also, I haven't bothered to look. What options are there at catcher once the rosters expand?

Both of Toledo's catchers, Omir Santos and Max St. Pierre, are in their 30s and are batting sub-.200 in AAA this year. Erie's catchers, Bryan Holaday and John Murrian, are not ready for the majors yet. Santos spent some time in Detroit back in April when Martinez was on the disabled list, and was the Mets' starting catcher in 2009, so he would probably be the one most likely to get the call on September 1.
