Wait a sec, the Tigers are still paying Robertson 9.something million to play in Florida. I'd think if they're going to pay him the cash he should at least give up 8 runs in our own Division than in the NL East.

lol Bronco...that is almost word for word what one of my coworkers said. Except he specified that it should be with Chicago for the that last few years of 1 or 2 hitters they have tossed our way.

Upon further review, it appears that Eddie Bonine will be on the Opening Day roster.

Looks like the last roster spot is down to Don Kelly or Clete Thomas. My money is on Kelly at the moment.

It's Don Kelly. Thomas was sent to Toledo.

Woo good to see Sizemore in the lineup. My fantasy team thanks Jim Leyland. :D

I have heard good things about him. He's going to go through the obvious ups and downs of a rookie campaign but if Leyland uses Santiago once in a while to keep the pressure down on Sizemore I think he will be fine.

A friend of mine, the biggest Tigers fan I know (and a former minor league pitcher himself) has been all excited about Sizemore since last year sometime. I haven't paid real close attention, but it doesn't seem like he's made much noise this spring. But from what I've heard, Jackson will be an unexpected upgrade over Granderson, and Avila's been batting well so I also hope he'll be taking on a pretty big role.
Starting to get stoked up for the season to start. I think we'll be in the Central race again and I predict a monster year for Inge (remember, he was an all-star last year - on gimpy knees).

I think they are going to take their time with Sizemore because they know he has big shoes to fill and putting extra pressure on him right away will not make things any easier for him. I have not seen Jackson yet, but I will be shocked if he can cover ground like Granderson did. Now as long as he can hit better than .180 against left handed hitting, I will be satisfied.

I really am excited about this year but this disappointment of the last couple years really has me anxious and not wanting to have my heart broken again.

Which is exactly why the drinks will be on me. At least for Hammer. ;)

With Opening Day being tomorrow, does anyone want to make their official predictions for win-loss record?

I'm gonna go with

86-76

I'm gonna go with 91-71. I really don't think this team is THAT good, but you can only have a bad stretch run so many times, right? I just think this might be the year that they meet expectations, as there is significantly less pressure and there is a surefire MVP candidate anchoring the lineup.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

82-84 wins. The back half of the rotation plus the bottom third of the lineup will be the death knell of this team's postseason chances. This is a foundation year for 2011 and 2012.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

81-81. I'm squarely on the fence. :o

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

That's okay. For a long time I was stuck on 80-82. I think they'll be a little better than that, given that KC and Cleveland are going to be horrible. I think Chicago takes the division with 90-92 wins, and Minnesota somehow finds a way to win 85 games. I have no idea how (neither do they, truth be known), but they'll do it.

Opening day is Sunday.

I'd say Minnesota is the favorite in the Central this season, with Detroit 2nd choice and Chicago 3rd. Not just because I am a Twins fan, but because I think their lineup is the best in the central and their rotation is "good enough". They have a history of near 200 innings and that bodes well.

Obviously closer may be an issue, but if they get to June and are having trouble, they have the cash/players to go get someone via trade.

Twins 95-98 wins
Detroit 89-93 wins
Chicago 81-86 wins

Chicago 86-76
Minnesota 85-77
Detroit 84-78

These teams are flawed and are going to beat each other up and get beat up by the Rays, Red Sox and Yankees, keeping their win totals down.

Twins 91-71
Tigers 84-78
White Sox 83-79

No, I don't feel good about that prediction. The White Sux could finish higher, and the Tigers could easily finish with a 70 win season. But then again so could everyone in this division. If only I had the balls to predict someone winning the division with a losing record. :p

You sound like Kwame...By the way, I'm still waiting for that beer he promised me at the parade.

The difference is, I pay up and I use my own funds to do it with.
No slushing off the taxpayers, mama senator, no sugar daddy employer, etc. etc.

70-92, if anything it gets Hammer his suds. Better hope the key guys stay healthy this season and the pitching has an ERA under 5.00 ;)

Realistically, if this team wins 80 games it will be solely based on playing in the AL Central. This will be a painful, but necessary re-building year.

TESTING

And saving for the season. I'll be at the office, so I can't get to the homer file easily. See you tomorrow.
