Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer
Serious question:
Can Boesch keep things up at this pace? Just as soon as his average dropped a few points it went right back up. It is typical for a young guy to put up staggering numbers for a few weeks before there is a profile on him. But now we are going on two full months of this.
Don't get me wrong, I love what he is doing. However I am worried that I will get my hopes up for his long term viability, only to have it shattered. We do know one thing--he is no Chris Shelton. But is he an Al Kaline? The experts tend to think so.

He's not going to hit .340. To believe otherwise is silly. And if he is going to hit .340 on a regular basis, I would recommend to Mr. Ilitch that he start building another statue for behind the LF seats. However, I think he can keep up the power numbers. The man is 6-4 and maybe a little more. And he was a 3rd round pick, so someone thought he had some potential. Chris Shelton was a 33rd round pick of the Pirates, and the Pirates did not think enough of him to protect him in the Rule V draft. That's how Shelton wound up here. Think about that for a minute. The Pirates didn't want to protect him.
I certainly didn't expect Boesch to be the first outfielder to be recalled from what we have in the minors. I expected Ryan Strieby to be the first, but he's had wrist injuries the past two seasons. Casper Wells was also competing with Austin Jackson in spring training for the CF spot, too. And I have no idea what we're going to get out of Wilkin Ramirez. Maybe we take him and move him this offseason for a shortstop or a 3rd baseman. There isn't going to be much to pick from in the free agent market for both of those positions.

Hell, I think we would all take him finishing out the year just above the .300 mark. He's been one of the best surprizes this year in Baseball, and certainly the one for the Tigers this year. I wouldn't mind him getting an invite to the All-Star game at all.
