Figaro called up, Raburn sent to Toledo.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

I wasn't going to jinx it while he was out there, but seven solid shutout innings for Porcello.

I wouldn't have minded seeing if he could get Jeter and Gardner with only 91 pitches, but it's a great start for him, and one the Tigers really needed.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Well, he took a line drive to the shoulder in the 7th, so I'm thinking they don't want to press their luck.

He was in and out of trouble most of the day, but it's a really nice outing nonetheless.

Gotcha. I was watching on Gametracker so I just saw Injury Delay, but they never said who it was for.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

It was a line drive off of Porcello, and I think Everett threw the guy out at first. He doesn't appear to be any worse for the wear, as he finished out the 7th.

8-0 Yankees, top 9. All holy hell has broken loose for the bullpen.

Yeah, that Line Drive there looked pretty nasty on the first watch, but it looked more of a glancing blow on the replays. Either way, it was a good outing for the kid.

Well, apparently they've figured out how to play baseball a foot under water. We're underway at Comerica.

there's no way they send Boesch down when Guillen's healthy, when he's hitting .375 and pushing Jackson for ROY. What to do? They can't really afford to platoon outfielders and get rid of a pitcher...

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Here's the problem: once Guillen is activated, one of the following is going to have to sit everyday: Boesch, Guillen, Damon, Jackson, Ordonez. There's only room for four of those bats. If Guillen didn't have the big contract with so many years on it, it might be an easier decision.

Another problem: with 13 pitchers, there's only 3 bench players available for any game, once you adjust for the DH. Today those players are: Avila, Kelly and Santiago. Everyone else not on the DL is in the lineup. Once Guillen returns, either an OF or a pitcher has to go. Kelly is the backup utility infielder, but he cannot be sent down unless he clears waivers. He's a sure bet to be claimed by a NL team, as he is versatile. That's why he was kept over Raburn, as Raburn had a minor league option left for this season.

If I had to guess, Boesch is going back to AAA, just long enough for a trade to be made. And if I had make another guess, it might be Mr. Guillen packing his bags, sooner rather than later.

I know you'll like this: why not show Laird the highway, and use Inge as backup catcher?
No, I know. But is there any reason they won't trade Magglio now that his value has crested and he's probably worth quite a bit? (Whereas I see Guillen as a candidate for retirement with his gimpy legs etc.)

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Magglio is not going to be as attractive as you think, not with that $15 mil option for next season about to automatically vest for what will be a 37-year old outfielder. And if I had to guess, the Tigers are not going to be too willing to eat too much more salary, as they are paying nearly all of Robertson's $9 mil this year already.

The easy way out is to send Boesch down for a couple weeks until a trade is made.

Guillen is owed $13 mil for both this year and next.

6-0 Tigers, bottom 6.

For God's sake, if Gump Laird has two hits and an RBI, we ****ed sure ought to be in nice shape.

That's what I was wondering. I actually approve of keeping Mags around though either way.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Here's where I got my salary info from

And I agree with your thoughts on Magglio. If he's going to produce, he can stay. This year and next will be just long enough to see if our outfielders in Erie and Toledo are going to be ready to contribute, or if we've got a bunch of Bobby Higginsons on our hands.

I'm more concerned about our infielders in the minors. We saw just how quickly Cale Iorg crashed and burned, and Danny Worth is also playing 2B along with the midget Will Rhymes (a 5-foot-7 second baseman. You figure that one out.) We're also going to have to replace Inge sooner than we realize. Don't look now, but he'll turn 33 next Wednesday.
