Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer
It was fun to see them get the win last night, but it still feels like they're trying to make a dollar out of two quarters and a couple nickels with the bullpen.
They can't keep going to Zumaya in the sixth inning and hoping he gets to Valverde in the ninth. There was no reason to leave him in that long in the 8th inning, and it almost cost them the game. It made the ninth a lot tougher too since the Yankees got the heart of the order up again too. I know it's Zumaya and his arm is going to fall apart eventually anyway, but let's not try to race to do it.

You're absolutely right.
The problem is, they're doing that with the whole bullpen. I'm beating a dead horse again today, but if the starters don't start pitching into the 7th inning on a semi-regular basis, the bullpen is going to be juiced by the 4th of July. I realize that last night was an exception, as Brad Thomas was an emergency starter and thus gets a free pass since he was on a 70 pitch limit, but we've simply got to get more innings out of our rotation.
A rainout might be our best option tonight, just to give the arms a rest.

I cant believe how much attention the Valverde antics are receiving from the media. I thought it was excessive, but not the the extent that ESPN and Detroit radio is making is out to be.
That doesn't help, but making it worse is that the ratio of Zumaya to Coke to Perry last night was way out of whack. If they bring Coke in to face Cano, Zumaya ends his night with only about 20 pitches thrown, and between Coke and Perry, they should be able to get three outs. It's an appearance for all three guys, but nobody super stresses their arm.
