Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

I don't think most Lion fans can afford to play that game with stadium beer. :(

????

Most Lions fans can't play since they can't afford the liver transplant required after all of that alcohol. Let alone the line to the mens room if Beer is the required drink.

My God, this is Michigan-Delaware State all over again.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

8 minutes into the first quarter. We have ZERO total yards. GB has 112.

End of the 4th quarter. We have ZERO points. GB has 26. Ended up with 149 total yards. Good news for me is I had Green Bay's defense for fantasy football this week :D

Culpepper left with a pulled hamstring. Enter Drew Stanton, who on his first play from scrimmage eyeballed Bryant Johnson to his right, never looking in any other direction (and Johnson being the only receiver over there). Did a pump fake, then threw out in front of him and Johnson got LEVELED. Out he went. And I immediately thought, "And that's why Stanton doesn't play." Stanton finished 5/11 for 57 yards and two INTs.

Next week the Lions have a huge showdown with BYE. I bet somehow they mess up that one, too ;)

They still got 1 more win then I had them pegged for going into the bye.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

Good god we are a terrible football team...

With that being said. Are we better than Cleveland, St. Louis, Tampa or dare I say Tennesse? I guess things could be worse...

Stafford - 894 yards (223.5 ypg) 3 TD 6 INT 1 fumble 56.8% completion 6.4 yards/att 65.5 rating
Sanchez - 1035 yards (172.5 ypg) 5 td 10 int 6 fumbles 52.1% completion 6.3 yards/att 56.7 rating

Btw, I thought Sanchez was supposed to be the accurate one, yet he only has a 52% completion percentage and its gotten worse every week since week 2

Now I'm not saying Stafford will be better than Sanchez because this is still a small sample size, but man how 3 games can change peoples minds. Sanchez his last 3 games 36-80 (45%) 429 yards (143 yards per game) 1 TD 8 INT.

In Sanchez' "defense" half of his INT's came in one game. Although that game was against Buffalo, who is HORRID.

The Lions will get their shots against the Browns and Rams. Tennessee is better than their record and would hang a beating on Detroit. They could have beaten Pitt in Pitt during week one. Tampa is slightly better, too. Look at their schedules to compare who they have played, also. In fairness, the Lions have only played three games where the opponent is average to poor, and won one game. They still are a very, very bad team (especially with all their sudden injuries) and can't be compared to the other poor teams fairly unless they play each other.

I'm not so sure Tennessee would hang a beating on us. They lost a great defensive coordinator (schwartz), haynesworth and they only have one legit weapon on offense (johnson). Cecil is showing that he is definitely not the same caliber as Schwartz. I think the Pittsburgh loss can be pinned almost exclusively on the defensive strategy late in the game.

The rest I agree with. I have completely changed my tune on this team. I hope we tank the rest of the season so we can get Taylor Mays or Eric Berry. Both should be a top 3-5 pick. I expect all of the top five teams to need a QB and it looks like Locker may be the best bet. Hopefully that bodes well for Detriot and we can lock up Mays or Berry. Our secondary would be insane pairing either of those two up with Delmas.:D

I'm not a Lions fan, so this is coming without a bias...If I were the Lions, and just drafted a franchise-type QB and gave him a HUGE contract, I would spend that top 5 pick on the very best offensive tackle I could draft. If there aren't any top 5 caliber takles, trade down, get another pick and take the best tackle available. The Lions need to protect the investment they made in Stafford. O-line, O-line, O-line. Yeah, they might still suck next year, but down the road, it will pay big dividends.

Agree, need some young, hungry olinemen that can play both the run and the pass.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

Our biggest need is defense. This is going to be a deep draft. If we can get Mays or Berry in the top 3-5 I think we're better off taking them. Guys like that don't come around very often and the teams ahead of us will almost certainly take a QB. I'm hoping that Mayhew can pull off something like he did last year so we can have 3-4 picks in the first 75 picks.
