Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

I agree. Miller's a boob, but he seems to be getting the shaft here.

Read some of the comments in the link. Apparently Alaskan election law states that to be a write in candidate you have to register as one.

If this is close like Coleman-Franken it might come down to voters intent. Seems the laws really need to be shored up in this area if we're going to have this amount of people incapable of filling out a ballot correctly.

Not only does Alaska law require that, killing any Miller write-ins, but it also requires all write-in votes to be spelled exactly correct, killing all misspelled Murkowski votes.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

I expect there will be some big, empty dong-wagging maneuver like Newt's shutting the government down in 95. If Obama faces it down the people will eventually abandon the GOP in that fight. If not, he deserves what he gets.

One of my bosses said Obama should go on the offensive starting today, or at the latest the day the new house is seated. Just go, "Ok, let's see your budget plans for the next fiscal year. I've got mine that I'll send to you, but let's see yours first."

Will never happen, but I gotta admit it'd be fun.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Honestly, I think it's hard to make a mistake from the House, unless you have a figure like Newt who towers over the body and attracts blame. Bohner's just not like that -- at best (worst?) he's a Pelosi-like figure that the other side will try to demonize but mostly not really be able to grip.

The question on unemployment is whether we're seeing a systemic change in the US economy -- unemployment was below 6% for, what, 20 years before the crash of 2006? It's possible that globalization, energy costs and the Gini Coefficient now all weigh more than US productivity and science and the US is on the wrong end of the hill, but I'll only start believing that if the rest of the west starts to recover but the US continues to lag.
If nothing else, it's just the speed at which Obama needs the economy and unemployment to get better that is problematic for him. He could knock down unemployment one tenth of a percent every month for the next two years, and he'd still be well above 7 percent.

Doesn't that discriminate against people with difficult to spell names, like Murkowski, compared to say, Smith? Murkowski isn't that tough, but it that's the rule, she'll lose more votes than if she was Lisa Smith.

That would be great entertainment value if nothing else.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

MSNBC was out and out hilarious last night, and I probably lean left overall. Acting like Reid holding on meant that the Republicans failed overall, accusing Bachmann of being hypnotized (I guess, this is possible), mocking the "concession speeches" from the few tea-partiers that lost, and one guy screaming doom and disaster for the entire planet if Rand Paul filibusters the debt ceiling vote.

I think I'm going to start watching Fox or MSNBC based on whoever's more likely to lose, so I can MST3K their attempts to spin their utter failure.

I sure hope so. :D

I watched the Sharks/Wild game instead. I want my 3 hours back.

Well, then Joe Miller should have no problems winning the election.

CNN was hilarious last night watching them talk about Palin for like 30 minutes (mostly the dem pundits) when she wasn't on a ballot anywhere and one of the rep pundits called them on it and their reaction was priceless...

Nothing fun like that ever happens.

A bit to add, a court decision says that if it's clear the voter intended to vote for Murkowski, even if her name isn't spelled correctly, but close to it then the vote must count.

So I guess it's safe to say that Murkowski is the one with friends in the courts.

Interesting. Thanks.

At least the Wild were wearing their least crappy* sweaters.

(* actually, very nice unis, but still the worst name in all major sports)

I'm on the record as criticizing the Left's fascination with Palin, but I don't think it was completely out of line. If Angle and Miller had won, and if O'Donnell had put the fear of God in Coons (or even won), Palin would be on top of the world today. Everyone would be congratulating her. Instead, it's Haley Barbour accepting all the congratulations. It's not hard to argue that makes a difference for the next election. It may not be correct, but it's not a ridiculous thing to speculate about.

Dear City of San Francisco,

Please leave the parenting to parents. Quit trying to do stuff like this.

Thanks,
