Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

So the idiot brigade in Iowa ousted the 3 state supreme court justices up for retention by a roughly 55-45 margin; all the court of appeals and district court judges up for retention survived fairly easily (60-70% 'yes' votes).

The scary thing is that most of the difference in those two wasn't people switching from 'no' on the supremes to 'yes' on the others; it was that a large contingent of the 'no' brigade simply didn't vote on the others. Proof that out of state advertising money seems to work.

The final damage will be about +65. Impressive -- I think they exceeded all models excepts Newt's. ;)

The National Review had a few people saying 75, and Chris Christie came out yesterday and said 70. No idea why they did that. It's enough to make John Boehner cry. Well, I guess anything is enough to make him cry though.

Very nice State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, way to come through in the clutch.

Although, I still can't believe California didn't approve marijuana and I'm blown away by Nevada voters affirming the right to take private property and transfer it to another private individual. That's simply frightening.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

I know there were some conservatives in California who were voting yes on marijuana to keep it off the ballot in 2012, maybe some liberals took the opposite approach? Also, didn't Schwarzenegger pretty much legalize it already?

Isn't that Glenn Beck? "Boehner/Beck 2012: Campaign Trail of Tears!"

we've had a few dust-ups regarding pot on the board...on CNN last night, Bennett, I believe, said there are more people addicted to pot than all other drugs combined because it is 20x stronger than the stuff in the 60-80's ... anybody know if that is true?

Don't know if there are more people addicted. But, it stands to reason that the stuff now is more pure and stronger than it was. I've heard that numerous times in reports on the news over the past few years.

I think that is a stretch at best. Pot's addictive qualities are not the same as those of cocaine and opioid based drugs. Pot addiction is similar in nature to alcohol addiction, and is nothing like the physical dependency of drugs like Morphine and Heroin.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Found this interesting link in my Google Reader this morning.

http://goo.gl/czi1y
It's "What the fu** has Obama done so far .com"

Link may not be work safe as I had to shorten it via Google to pass the USCHO word filter.

113 of 129 Tea Partiers won House races. Less successful in the Senate races, and the Denver Post has just called Colorado for Bennet.

You're not saying that alcohol doesn't have a physical dependency are you? I agree it's not as powerful as Morphine or Heroin but there are plenty of people out there that have a physical dependency to it. Heck, Caffeine has a physical dependency.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/11/03/tea.party/index.html?hpt=C2

"The Republicans need to know, we've done it in 2010. If they don't do the right thing in the next couple of years, it's not a problem. We'll come back in 2012. We'll do it all over again. We'll replace them with people that will uphold [our] principles," said Mark Meckler, co-founder of Tea Party Patriots -- one of the movement's largest groups. "Frankly, the Republicans blew it over a very long period of time. The largest deficit ever run up in history, before the current administration, was run up by George Bush," he said. "Our job is to reverse that course and not allow any party to ever do that again."

I hope he's serious. Judging by some of the Republican primaries this year, I have to think so - and the Republican leadership had better think so, too.

Exit poll results indicated a stronger showing for the Tea Party among older voters, with 47 percent of those 60 and older saying they support the Tea Party and only 26 percent of voters ages 18 to 29 saying they support the movement.

Can we start calling it the "Get Off My Lawn Party" yet?

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Simple solution to that problem. Don't nominate a tool like Emmer. This election was like Ventura all over again except Horner has the personality of a house plant. Dayton won entirely on default.
... and he only won by about 10,000 votes (recount pending).

In any event, Dayton will not be able to enact his agenda for two years at least due to what happened with the state legislature.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Gallup generic ballot whiffed for the first time in a long long time. Final poll showed Republicans +15, final margin wound up being Republicans +6-7.

There's already a list of GOP Senators getting primaried in 2012 circulating around.

Of course not. I'm saying it's no where near the same scale, and it's of a different nature. The number of alcohol drinkers that are physically dependent is very small, but the number of people who use Morphine (and I don't mean medicinally) or Heroin who are physically dependent is almost 100%. That's a big difference.

Oh, good. Maybe we can borrow money from the schools again to balance the budget.

I feel like this is the mood of the electorate: "OK, they may have a point. Maybe we'll invite them in the House... just don't let them use the good china!"

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Question that could indicate how 2012 might go:

Does anyone know of any races this year where a candidate strongly backed by the TPers lost to an Establishment Republican who then went on to lose to a Democrat? To put it plainly: What do TPers do when they lose a primary - do they vote for the D out of spite, do they stay home and let the D win, or do they grit their teeth and vote for the R, who is probably nearer their views?

Of course, the other dynamic is that 2012 is a Presidential election, so any TPers who are fired up enough to participate in a Republican primary are probably going to vote anyway, so their choices after a primary loss would be D or R. Would they really vote for a D? Honestly curious...
