Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Just running through my projections:

I predict that 934,218 will be necessary to win the gubernatorial race. With 97% reporting, Emmer needs to gain 59% of the votes in the areas not reporting yet. Not seeing that happen.

Jerry Brown wins... should be interesting to see what happens at California lurches towards bankruptcy.
he and Cuomo will be carrying hat in hand to DC asking for a federal bailout.

The next big "thing" is going to be the states' unfunded pension liability. When that bill starts coming due, states are going to be financially screwed. But if Congress has bailed out CA and/or NY, then we're guaranteed they'll feel the pressure to take over that debt.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

lepage is a bit volatile which scares the hell out of a lot of people. my understanding is that early on he courted the support of the teapartiers, but later tried to distance himself from them... it's looking like lepage is going to win given the way things have been trending, but i really think maine is missing a real opportunity for job creation with the (apparent) loss of cutler...

Lepage is still ahead with 84% in. Still around 1%. Cutler is a slick talking lawyer and that scares any sane person in Maine:D The interesting part is Libby Mitchells family were 0 for 3. she lost and 2 of her kids lost:D:D:D:D. Talk about scary, she sucked beyond belief

Unless the remaining 1% of precincts break strongly to Dayton, we're looking at a recount. His lead is down to around 9000 votes.

Interestingly, the Dems lost their majorities in both houses of the state legislature. Even with the anti-Dem sentiment, I didn't expect that to happen.

Yep. And when Dayton wins that, we're going to get the tinfoil hat brigade back in full force.

Neither did I.

I doubt it. The margin isn't as small as it was in the Coleman-Franken race, and it's highly unlikely that a margin of a few thousand votes will be reversed - no matter how many felons sneak through as "votes". :p

It'll be interesting to see how the state budget process plays out with Dems and Republicans switching spots.

...and Oberstar has lost his re-election bid in district 8 by a point. That is a monumental upset. That district is reliably Democrat and Oberstar has been in Congress forever. Wow.

It's already happening. Between the error in Hennepin County and the closeness of the race, several righties I know have already made the claim that Ritchie is throwing this to Dayton.

I take that about as seriously as I take the claims that WCHA refs are in bed with Minnesota because the U's fanbase bankrolls the WCHA. :p

So do I. Unfortunately, they don't.

I think the law had that you had to obligate the money by 9/30/10. The unobligated $$ should go back to the Treasury.

Like I said before, there are big differences beteen allocated, committed, spent, and invoiced.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Not all carry-permit holders are law-abiding. There is one instructor in MN who runs coke for a criminal organization--just hasn't been caught.

For that matter, not all people remain law-abiding. There were 144 reported crimes in MN committed by permit holders, of which 15 used the weapon, 29 didn't, and 100 are unknown.

Not saying that carrying is a good or bad idea--just throwing stuff out there.

How many were convicted? How many overall holders are there?

Alaska Senate race looks to be the predictable cluster*. "Write-in" is at 39%, Joe Miller is at 34%, Scott McAdams is at 25%.

One thing about write-ins. Every one of them can be looked at fifteen ways and independently assessed ("Lisa Murcowski"? That must be somebody else.), so if Miller gets lawyered up this will drag on where the Founders intended our elections to be decided -- the court.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

NY 23 stays surprisingly Democrat with Bill Owens retaining. The Conservative (Dog Hoffman) that was still on the ballot even though he suspended his campaign took 9,000 votes from the Republican Matt Doheny. I'm smell someone being upset. :D The margin was around 4,000.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Palin on Fox News: "...need to reign in the powers of Federal agencies, like the EPA..."

Newsflash: You have clean drinking water, breathable air, pollution free land (for the most part, obviously unusable land does exist because of pollution), and safe neighborhoods (EPCRA) because of the EPA. Someone needs to tell her to google search: Cuyahoga River fires, "Valley of the drums" and Love Canal, New York. Finally, the EPA was not the idea of some hippie liberal from California, but of...........wait for it........... Richard M. Nixon (R-CA). For the trivia buffs, Nixon also signed the OSH Act into law. Which means, Sarah, you have the right to a workplace "free from recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm."

ok... so how about those farmers put out of a farm in CA to save the delta smelt... and yes, how about classifying CO2 as a pollutant.

edit: there are no agencies of super-jesus light love and free cookies. They are staffed by people and some of them are staffed by ideologues.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

But according to people like 5mn major, these permit holders are all itching to take shots at him on the freeway and can't be trusted.

But...I don't hold a carry permit.

Oh, there are others like me then?

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Boy, good thing I didn't stay up to watch Nevada. Went to bed at 50-44 Reid, wake up and it's still 50-44 Reid. Chuck Schumer has to be piiiiiiissed right? Sure looks like Murkowski is going to win, or at least have a healthy lead going into the counting of the write in ballots.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Out in Western Wisconsin, I think Ron Kind got pretty lucky. One of the few years in which he could legitimately lose, and he faces a guy like Kapanke with a bunch of baggage. Other than that, we flipped two blue seats back to red, including Obey's seat. All in all, not bad. Take notes Minnesota.

Edit: And both the Democratic Speaker and the Democratic Senate Majority leader lost here as well.

To: The over 500,000 Mark Dayton fans
From: Me

1. Thanks for trying to raise my taxes. You gave it the "good o'l college try." Unfortunately I know enough of the US Tax Code to be dangerous so good luck collecting.
2. Thanks for raising my employers taxes. Awesome forward thinking by you. Again, jokes on you because when the profits fall and the stock price declines, the jobs will leave, the majority holders will sell for a loss and you will be left with nothing. Enjoy.

In closing remember this: "Government that is big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have."

Enclosures: Taxes & Budget Plan

Simple solution to that problem. Don't nominate a tool like Emmer. This election was like Ventura all over again except Horner has the personality of a house plant. Dayton won entirely on default.
