Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Voted this morning. Weirdly, because of term limits, Stupak's resignation and MI's senators getting lucky on their reelection years, I didn't have a chance to put any incumbents out of work. Except for Judges.
I did have a chance to vote against some local schmuck running for the state house who apparently has found the time and access to scheme evilly with Pelosi against America's interests, according to some mail I got. :)

About to go out to vote. It won't matter. My county is so in the tank for the Demoncrats that they could raise our taxes by 100% and the folks would love it because the schools would still be good and the services would still be wonderful.

As a side note, when (if) do California and New York declare bankruptcy and should the Federal government bail them out?

My district would replace the American republic with a theocracy if it had its way. Wanna trade? :D

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

I vote in a very liberal district (MN5) and voted this morning at about 8am. In and out in less that 4 minutes. 2 years ago there were lines out the door and halfway down the block. Not sure what that means but I was vote #13 as opposed to 300 something last time. If the Linden Hills area of Minneapolis stays home, the democrats are screwed.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

The House is tough. I think 40 is the absolute low end. Maybe not. I'm on record as Senate +7 for Republicans, so I think 5 is low. Let's look at them in depth.
North Dakota, Arkansas, and Indiana are guaranteed to switch. That's 3.
Then, there's Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Republicans are winning here, but there's the chance the dead could rise up (as they have a habit of doing in Milwaukee, Madison, and Philadelphia) and give the Dems a win. Still, I'm calling it 5.
Nevada, Colorado, and Illinois are a little tougher, but Republicans are leading in all 3 races. Give them 2 out of 3. That's 7. I feel reasonably comfortable with that.
Then, there's West Virginia and Washington. West Virginia is probably in the Democrat column, but there's a chance voters may be overwhelmed by their dislike of Obama. Washington is interesting, because Public Policy Polling (Democratic firm) showed Rossi leading today by 2 (and by 5 among the 75% who had already mailed in their ballots). So, I'd say there's maybe a 20% chance of taking as many as 9.

Interesting that you feel like Dems have a chance in Alaska. Is that of McAdams winning or of Murkowski caucusing with them?

Whoops - meant to cover Alaska. My theory is that the Dem candidate will get what's normal for Dems in that state, about 35-40%. I don't see a lot of Dem voters chosing either Murkowski or Miller, so (unlike the Florida situation with Meek) he most likely keeps his base. That means Murkowski and Miller are fighting for the reaming 60+% of voters who normally vote GOP in Alaska.

So, somebody's support needs to collapse. Lets say its Miller for example. He would need to be held below about 22% of the vote for Murkowski to win as that would put her around 40%. I don't know that's going to happen. On the flip side, being a write in candidate is going to cost her a decent amount of votes. I personally think Murkowski will pull it out but any one of the three could be victorious as getting 38-40% of the vote wins the election.

You would not be by any chance down in Lynchburg?? If so, my sympathies. Junior is too big for his britches.

And in the spirit of the Founding Fathers:
"Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of the people; and not for profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, the people alone have an incontestable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government; and to reform, alter, or totally change the same, when their protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness require it." --John Adams, Thoughts on Government, 1776

Not quite Lynchburg, but definitely in the top 2or3.

It's not that it's an automatic GOP district. I could get involved if it were
1. rich district w/ Libertarian leanings
2. military district, hawkish on defense
3. battleground district with GOP leaning

Southern religious right?

I've got nothing. It's just live and let live.

You get the right to ****** along with the rest of us.:p

ETA: Why did it put 6 stars in for 5 letters? Is this another board bug?

It wants us all to play the board's latest new game sweeping the nation, "Guess the Attempted Curse Word."

The CBC has an agenda,” Lee told The Economist. “Our agenda is about lifting people out of poverty, providing middle-class tax cuts, supporting climate-change legislation. Do [incoming black Republicans] embrace this agenda?”

It sounds like they need a new name for their caucus. May I suggest the Congressional Black Caucus for Blacks Who Think Like We Do? A little wordy perhaps...

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

One more quote for the day and then I will wait for the obits at 7 PM tonite....
"There are four ways in which you can spend money. You can spend your own money on yourself. When you do that, why then you really watch out what you're doing, and you try to get the most for your money. Then you can spend your own money on somebody else. For example, I buy a birthday present for someone. Well, then I'm not so careful about the content of the present, but I'm very careful about the cost. Then, I can spend somebody else's money on myself. And if I spend somebody else's money on myself, then I'm sure going to have a good lunch! Finally, I can spend somebody else's money on somebody else. And if I spend somebody else's money on somebody else, I'm not concerned about how much it is, and I'm not concerned about what I get. And that's government."

I would argue that it's actually scenario 3 (spend someone else's money on myself).

Even in this electoral climate, I see TV ads criticizing Virginia Congress members for letting Norfolk lose out to Mississippi re: military spending. Conservative ideology is well and good, and so is controlling deficits, but even in this election, it's still about looking out for #1.

I had no idea we were neighbors.

I'll be leaving work early enough to give Roscoe G. Bartlett more of that 25% against he has to worry about each election. It is gratifying to know that my representative is the craziest in Congress (Birther and Tea Partier and Supporter of Reverend Moon). That is no mean feat.
