#2 was not staged, it was just bigger and had the right photographer at the right place at the right time. The correspondent who took the movie of Flag #2 raising is still somewhere on the island.
Believe it was #2 - the "Flags of Our Fathers" one.

Joe: Perhaps my choice of the word staged was inappropriate-but over the years i have heard so much controversy about that picture and the events leading up to it that I have some serious doubts as to the sequence of how things actually went. I do not in any way mean to demean any of the achievements on that barren crappy little island where we lost so many lives.
