SteveP, and other Canadians will be sad:

Johnny Esaw, one of the pioneers of Canadian sports television, a man who changed the landscape forever, has died at the age of 87.

Re: Dead!!!!

Really? I knew she was having medical issues because the BBC has had stories about her being alive for months
I don't get the BBC network, nor do I go to its website. She'd not really been in the local media, that much I can say.

Local news/network news is all fluff and no substance. I listen to the beeb because they actually remember there is a world outside of US borders that doesn't involve some celebrity and they actually cover something for more than one sentence

Absolutely. Our ocal news is just local murders and rapes followed by feel good stories and entertainment fluff. I only watch it for the weather and the local sports. The network news, as has been argued on other threads, have their own agenda. I actually get more news here on the USCHO threads than any where else and appreciate that many of the posters update what is going on around the world pretty quickly.

This. When I was following the politco threads (before the complete idiots took over and it became too much work to sift) I loved to read all the links posted.

Re: Dead!!!!

M-I-C you later, Annette Funicello. 70.

Say it ain't so:( Other than the adventures of Spin and Marty and a couple cartoons, there was no reason to watch- for me there was only Annette and Darlene! I don't think I can watch Beach Blanket Bingo ever again.:(

No Beach Blanket Bingo? And miss Harvey Lembeck as Eric Von Zipper? And an Oscar-worthy, tour-de-force performance by Don Rickles as Big Drop? Not to mention Paul Lynde as Bullets. You must be joking.

It is a classic. Those 60's beach movies were my saturday afternoon diversions for quite a while.:)

Hey Doc, For a touch of irony that I find to be just a little on the spooky side, today is Darlene Gillespie's seventy-second birthday. Saw it in the Denver Post which runs a daily item about celebrity birthdays.

And talk about being positively transfixed by spellbinding drama...

Guys of a certain age will remember, with a certain warmth, the way Annette filled out her jersey. There was an insistent, yet innocent sexuality about her.

You and every other hormonal teenage boy!

Ms. Funicello was a tireless campaigner for MS research. May she rest in peace.
