D3 Women?

Great game tonight in St. Paul with UWEC coming to town to play Hamline. In the first period EC came out fast and kept the pace up all period while Hamline was back on their heels for most of the period. Hamline picked up the pace in the second period to match EC. Third period was pretty much back and forth with Hamline applying most of the pressure until EC got a late goal with less than two minutes left and then an open net goal. UWEC maybe slightly over rated at number 2 based on their schedule but Hamline is under rated in my opinion.

Looking forward to the two GAC UWRF games starting tomorrow night and Saturday.

Middlebury has postponed all athletics until further notice. The Panther women were due to take on UMass-Boston yesterday in non-conference action. They have announced Jan 3 as a makeup date for that game.

Barring further postponement, the current USCHO number 1 will resume play with 6 games in 12 days, including ranked opponents Endicott and Plattsburgh. All but one game is at home, but the road trip is the next day after hosting Endicott at home.

East-West: Norwich beats Adrian 4-2 (ENG) in game 1. Adrian had long stretches where they controlled play but Norwich's offense was just too much when they got chances.

In Game 2 between Elmira and Plattsburgh, there was a wild up and down 1st that saw Ashley Davis get another quick hook. Chloe Beaubien with perhaps the best goaltending the trio has played all season in relief, looking mostly confident and trying to limit rebounds. Annie Katonka returned from injury and carried the offense, scoring two power play goals and breaking away shorthanded in the waning minutes of the game for the hat trick. 4-3 final.

We have the NCAA QF special for the third place game tomorrow as Adrian will take on Elmira. Plattsburgh will take on host Norwich, who will be looking to avenge their loss at Plattsburgh earlier in the season.

UW-River Falls scored three third period goals in a high scoring affair with Gustavus. DIII's active career leader in points Callie Hoff paced the Falcons with 4 points. GAC came from behind, took a lead, gave it away and fell behind again. They scored the proximate goal with 1:25 left but couldn't tie.

SNC with their 10th win of the year against Augsburg with a 4-3 win. They will have a real test in the new year with two away at UW-Eau Claire.

Eau Claire with a 4-1 win over Concordia (MN).

Wesleyan is off to a 6-0 start, defeating Manhattanville 6-1 in their own barn.

Williams defeated William Smith 2-0.

East-West:

In Game 2 between Elmira and Plattsburgh, there was a wild up and down 1st that saw Ashley Davis get another quick hook.

She gave up 2 goals on 3 shots before she was pulled. After the performance Thanksgiving weekend, a quick hook was not a surprise. I suspect it will be a long hook this time…

I agree completely it was warranted. I'm not sure if/when Davis gets another shot. She took third-string reps in warmups with Chloe Beaubien starting and Lilla Nease getting backup reps.

Chloe Beaubien showed a lot this weekend. From third string to start the season to the MVP at the East-West at the end of the semester. Olshansky also with a great weekend, landing a spot on the all-tournament team.

Cardinals beat Norwich 2-1 on goals from Olshansky and Drew-Mead. Baptiste with the lone goal for Norwich.

Elmira and Adrian skated to a 2-2 tie in the third place game. Anderson and Bjelland with the goals for Adrian, Morton and Mordini scored for Elmira.

In the only other action on the day, Williams completed the sweep of William Smith. Emily Martino and Emma Faso scored for the Herons, Kitazono, Halloran and Chiang scored for Williams.

Tuesday's game between Worcester State and Salem State will be the last DIII action until New Year's Eve when Stevens Point and Lawrence square off.

Four absolutely terrific hockey games at Kreitzberg this weekend. Great hockey on display all weekend and the difference between those four teams is RAZOR thin.

Good chance at least 2 of them are in the final four at the end of the year if I’m a betting man.

Well, you know Elmira and Adrian will be one QF and it’s likely Plattsburgh/Norwich will be another one… that would guarantee two of them in the FF….

Middlebury could get matched up with Plattsburgh and/or Norwich too...also look at the Pairwise right now...Norwich and Elmira are far from locks to make it in when one or both lose the NEHC title.

(Also i know the pairwise is very skewed right now with the NESCAC teams not playing near as many games etc.) I fully expect it to change up a little more, but right now, a lot of the "blue bloods" have work to do.

Good point. I forgot Elmira had switched into Norwich's league meaning at least one of them would not be getting an automatic bid...

If the season ended today, Norwich, Eau Claire and Adrian would all be out. That said, I think Adrian will overtake SNC in the NCHA and Wesleyan and Colby will fall down the PWR.

If the season ended today the field, based on conference standings and PWR, would be:

CCC: Endicott
MIAC: GAC
NCHA: St. Norbert
NEHC: Elmira
NESCAC: Middlebury
NEWHL: Plattsburgh
UCHC: Nazareth/Utica (not sure who wins tiebreakers)
Pool C: Wesleyan
Pool C: Colby
Pool C: UW-River Falls

Well, the Umass-Boston game is complete (8-0 win, Maddie Leight with the hat trick) and the Utica game is postponed. So Endicott and Plattsburgh games are up next.

Unless it gets postponed I'm looking forward to Adrian vs GAC on Thursday. A win for either team would help their chances if they get upset in their conference tournament.

The Stafford Ice Arena announced new attendance rules for men's games in 2022 (see below).... I wonder what the rules are for the Plattsburgh's women's games?
  • Masks must be worn at all times and will be strictly enforced
  • Consumption of food or drink is prohibited
  • In an effort to reduce density, admittance into the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena is limited to the following groups: season ticket holders; family of competing student-athletes; SUNY Plattsburgh students, faculty and staff; game personnel; and credentialed members of the media
  • Vaccination against COVID-19, including a booster shot, is encouraged

Augsburg upsets #9 Adrian by a 5-2 score. Rematch today.

I'd be surprised if Adrian stays ranked come Monday given two losses this week.

Just an FYI. Adrian was hit hard with Covid protocol before they headed out for their 3 game road trip. I believe they had to leave behind 13 players and have only 13 skaters available for each of their games. Hopefully they will regroup as league play resumes next weekend.

Middlebury (#1) manages to pull out a overtime win over Endicott (#10) 2 to 1.Endicott scores on a scrum early in the third period after two scoreless periods. Middlebury pulls the goaltendter with 1:30 to go, and ties the game with 1:11 left. The Endicott goaltender Michaela O'Brienwas brilliant stopping 38 of 40 shots.

Augsburg defeats a shorthanded Adrian again, this time 3-2
St. Norbert upsets UW-Eau Claire with a 2-1 score. Eau Claire didn't give up, scoring their lone goal with 10 seconds left in the game.
Elmira with a big win over Norwich to take firm control over the NEHC.

This is what the tournament would look like if the season ended today (assuming Nazareth over Utica as they are still tied):

I will be shocked if Colby and Wesleyan hang around in the PWR to the end, but stranger things have happened. There are still not enough games to flesh out geneuine Pool C candidates from schools bolstered by a lack of data. The PWR has 5-4 Hamilton and 5-5 Bowdoin over 11-2-1 Elmira.
