D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

A misdemeanor third degree is the lowest grade charge there is before it drops down to summary offenses, non-traffic citations, etc. If it's his first criminal charge he will most likely end up having fines and a few conditions such as counselling, and once all conditions are satisfied, his record will probably be expunged-wiped clean.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Norwich wins it 5-3. Rundlett scores last two Norwich goals to seal victory.

Fortier gets assist on rundlett's second goals to tie all time career points mark.

The DeBus goal has to be one of the most amazing ever! Interesting game this evening. The Panthers had their chances early, failed to seal the deal, let the champs off the ropes and, well the Cadets did what champs do and won going away. Congrats to Fortier on her effort to get the pass to Rundlett for the empty netter and her 100th career point and Coach Bolding and the Cadets for their comeback win.

Not 100th career point...she passed that mark last year. Fortier tied Sophie Leclerc for the program record for career points at 163.

O
DeBus' goal was video game esque. Once I get the highlights I'll be sure to post.

My bad...long drive down from Northfield...way past my bedtime!

Now that the obserbear has rested...are we going to get a typical report like you do for the NESCAC games ;)

You were able to concentrate on the finer points of the game much more than I could because I was stating the game and looking at a computer screen half the time.

Be interested to hear your take!

The thing that stands out for me from last night at Kreitzberg is how well Middlebury played for the first 30 minutes and how well Norwich adapted their game and then came on and outplayed the Panthers from about the middle of the 2nd on. I was impressed by Midd's passing and the way they switch so quickly from defense to breaking out and away. They always look ahead and get tearing up ice. I remember speaking with a coach a few years ago and he complimented Coach Bolding on his team's ability to play different styles and that was my take from last evening: the Cadets made some changes based on the Panther style and skills and got some bodies on people, the get in their hands thing, and their superior net presence was able to take its toll.
Looking at the box I was surprised the shots were even at 6 for the 1st. It seemed Midd was throwing the puck around and controlling more of the play, as they had four powerplays, but could not take advantage of their opportunities. Midd was getting the puck to the net, they were just unable to get to the rebounds. Joyce had a post around 2 minutes of the 1st on a shot from the slot and Fortier broke on left wing, launched a drive and the attempt on the rebound sailed wide shortside of an open net. The Panthers ended the 1st with a 5x3 and had :29 of 5x3 to begin the 2nd. They did open the scoring just after Norwich killed off the second penalty. Joyce worked in behind the net and got the puck to Ugalde low stickside of Fish; her shot was saved, but Woodward grabbed the rebound and scored from the gloveside. Midd extended the lead with a powerplay goal when Marrison got the puck to Waters in the right circle and her shot rebounded to Fluke who beat Fisk with a low forehand. The Cadets answered on their first powerplay of the evening. They controlled the puck most of the first minute of the man advantage, scoring when Guay fed from left point low to DeBus; she spotted Lortie with space at the top of the crease and she beat Jones to make it 2-1. Norwich tied the score on a pretty play; Wilkes fed Invernizzi in the left circle and she made a perfect feed to Anderson breaking to the top of the crease and chipping the puck up over Jones. As the 3rd got under way, I was speaking with a Midd parent and he saw Sharman get the puck to DeBus and just had time to say the last thing he wanted to see was DeBus with the puck breaking in semi-alone when she pulled of an amazing sort of heliocopter move, spinning and working backward before getting off a backhand to beat Jones 5 hole form the gloveside of the crease. Truly a highlight which I am not doing justice in describing! Norwich made it 4-2 when Parsons ripped one from the top of the rigth circle which was deflected by Rundlett beating Jones 5 hole. Late in the period Midd got Jones off for an extra attacker as they went on a powerplay, but Fortier made a nice play laying out on the right boards and getting the puck to Rundlett in center just outside the Midd D zone; she did not miss the open net. Joyce added a goal as time was running out whenshe grabbed a rebound of a Styrbicki drive and put it in from low on Fisk's gloveside.
Impressive comeback by the Cadets. The Panthers are left to wonder what might have been had they converted those early powerplay chances?
Midd finishes their regular season at home against Plattsburgh Saturday. Norwich hosts Holy Cross and Salve Regina.

By the way, to all those people who are still posting today about yesterday's game (great comeback win, that's for sure!), a game of some consequence actually took place today, with St Thomas beating River Falls 3-1!

Sorry to say I did not get to watch Wednesday's game, but do you have any insight into how it went down? RF tanking? StT ascending? Anyone at the game?

I didn't watch the game but UWRF did play their back up goalie, who has been the downfall in many of their losses/ties/close calls. She was pulled with 10 minutes to go after St Thomas got up 2 goals in the third. Obviously she held up for nearly 46 minutes before giving up two quick goals, so its not fair to blame her for the loss.

Their big names didn't contribute much as far as scoring, penalties either. Their top 5 scorers (Batters, Nordness, Cranston, Story, and Batters) had 1 assist out of the bunch.

I can't say anything definitively, but Cranston has to know the only way he's getting in the NCAA's is by winning the O'Brien...he could have been resting players.

Here are the highlights from the Norwich/Middlebury game on Tuesday night including DeBus' SportsCenter top play worthy goal for the third Norwich goal.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

That 3rd goal was very pretty.

The third goal made me forget about how nice the 2nd goal was too. Pretty tic-tac-toe passing from Wilks to Invernizzi who threaded a perfect pass to Anderson for the chip top shelf into the upper right hand corner of the net.

The 4th goal was good, but all of the first 3 were outstanding goals. The first 2 were epitomes of classic team play, passing, positioning, and hussle. The third was a classic example of individual skill and effort. Wonderful to watch!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Ok, ok...enough already...yes...they were all pretty goals...sheesh!!! :o
:confused:: Rarely does one see such plays even in the pros, almost never 3 of such quality in one game. The kids deserve all the kudos that we can heap on them.:)

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Didn't Joe do the same thing with this goalie last year in the NCAA game against GAC. Not play her for 4 or 5 games and then throw her in on a Gut Feeling?
And doesn't he have 10 days to "rest players"? They're off this weekend. I would say that RF's PK got a good workout last night, while UST's only had to kill off 4 minutes. Maybe, after all, they got beat by a better team?
