D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Well amherst wins 2-1 in OT. The "local" crew calls 2 on RF in overtime. Great to see them let the girls just play it out. So now which eastern team/fan do I bow down to? I guess you guys are just that much better. Its been proven, right?

it's a tie in the books...right?

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Yeah, no such thing as a shootout in the regular season. All hail the east! Hahaha

On the contrary...IMHO that's a tie game with even SOG and when the ref's couldn't help getting it decided in the 3rd period for one team they chose to get involved again and decided it for the other team in the OT.
Putting a team, any team, down 5 on 3 in OT is brutal. Just stay out of it and let the teams decide the outcome.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Ah, now I get what you're saying. I fully agree. There's no reason to put a team down in a 5 on 3 situation in OT. Honestly... If RF would have won in the same situation I would have been happy, but at the same time would have felt really bad. Even though 2 of those officials were D1, they sure didn't show it.

*nods head*

I've seen that more than a few times in Adrian for the mens' games. The CCHA would send over D-1 referees for MCHA games, and it was like they were being punished, being sent to work a D-3 game.

I'm curious what people from the east who watched the game thought of River Falls in comparison to other teams they see out there....RF is the only team to take Amherst to OT this year...granted they have lost to RIT, Elmira, and Middlebury in close games

I watched part of the webcast but it kept falling behind and buffering so it was tough to get a feel for the game. The announcer was solid though so that helped for sure. What i did watch though looked like a great game between two good teams. Shots were close and the action seemed like it was pretty neutral. I talked real briefly with Coach Plumer after the game and he said the following about Falls, "They are good. Certainly in the conversation. Faster than I expected."

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

I, too only saw part of the game. I have said for years that when I watch RF and GAC their top lines compare with the Eastern powers, but they seem to have a steeper fall off than the Eastern teams when you go to the 3rd and 4th line players. We saw last year at FF that GAC had no problem competing with Norwich and Midd, but they could not match lines with either team.

What I think really hurts RF and GAC is the level of competition that they play against. If either of those teams had a steady diet of Platty, Elmira, RIT, Amherst, Midd, Norwich, etc, I think they would be an entire notch better.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

River Falls looked faster than I expected, but did not shoot when I thought they should. Amherst had great puck movement on their powerplay. RF pushed the puck more on their PPs (no rhythm). RF was big enough and played a nicely physical game with Amhers; they were evenly matched there (and RF seemed to have some longer reaches). I have to agree with Spike that I did notice drop-off and players who were not confident skaters on later lines. Great game.

Amherst wins 2-1....Tommies had a couple good chances with the goalie pulled but couldn't get em in.
