D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Hey Derek,

Great column today about RIT. It never ceases to amaze me how many little things affect a coach trying to put his schedule's together. I do have one small criticism however. You mention how the RIT players went to Ontario instead of going home for Thanksgiving. Isn't like 75% of their roster from Ontario?
Meanwhile in Canada...Columbus Day was Thanksgiving, so technically...they did go to Ontario instead of going home for Thanksgiving...

Before you start deciding where to put that NCAA DIII trophy, let's face the reality that Trinity's program has entered an eclipse (recall that halcyon '09-'10 season ending with the epic 4OT win over Middlebury in the NESCAC semi, 2-1OT loss to eventual NCAA champ Amherst in the NESCAC final and nail biter 2-1 loss to Elmira in their first ever NCAA quarter). Hard to say as a non-Bantam what is going on in Hartford, but it is going to be a loooooooooong season.
I think it will be great for women's hockey for the west to win a DIII title. I (much to the chagrin of the Editor) watch western webcasts, I try to see their games when they travel east (it will be interesting to see the St. Thomas-Conn game this afternoon; lord knows who will ref that one, but just saying it will probably be called "eastern style"), heck I would have gone to the finals at Gustavus except for that silly mortgage closing. So go _________ (I just do not want to get in the middle of that NCHA-MIAC thing).

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Just scrolling through yesterday's boxscores and see that # 3 Middlebury could only conjure up a tie against NR M'ville at home?

Ouch! That's gonna leave a mark....

More cutty!

haha i knew that was coming as soon as i posted it....thats always the eastern defense when a western team wins. St Thomas isn't exactly the teams of 2-3 years ago either. UST had 13 penalties for 34 minutes last night....Trinity was 0-10 on the power play. So the eastern bias reffing didn't have much of an affect.

M-Ville is an almost ranked team hovering between spots 8 and 12-13 sofar this year. A more predictable tie than the one Norwich had a week ago.

Well.... the true #8 has M'ville down 3-0 after 2. SOG: 17-11 Platty.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Platty defeats M'ville 4-0 with things getting a little ugly at the end. SOG: 28-20 Platty

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

In the "tables turned" department..Chatham defeats Slippery Rock (?) 6-0 and outshoots them 59-6 in an ex game today!!

Shame on Chatham for running up the score like that...;)

Haha...what was this team from Slippery Rock...did they teach chimps to pass a puck and shoot? Cuz that's the only team I could envision Chatham beating by this margin! Too funny!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

In late game day action the Volcano takes his team into Hartford today and squeeks by the Bantam's 3-2....

Those same..."not very good" bantams that St Thomas beat 6-0 yesterday? Maybe we need to rethink that poll :) :)

Bear - Do we know why Trinity started their backup goalie for this game. Giving up 4 goals on 12 shots, after outshooting the Tommies early on has to be tough. Looking at the Nichols game, this same thing happened with this goalie.....probably won't see much game time rest of year. I agree that this will be a really long season for the Bantams, losing their coach right before the start of the season, losing Weis to graduation and their top forward out until after the christmas break. Too bad, a long fall from just a couple of years ago.

I see that Conn College beat St. Thomas today.

That was really not very nice. Some Slippery Rock and Chatham players or parents could be reading...just thinking of the girls.
