D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

They lost something like 5 or 6 planned recruits this spring due to a International Content ruling.

I had heard that the school had creatively found some extra funding dollars for their potential Canadian recruits and that the NCAA sanctioned them. I was led to believe that the recruits went elsewhere.

Schools like Buff State and Geneseo got hit with similar ratio rulings in the past. It is hard to follow the science/rules of how this works, but some NY schools seems to be better at managing their Canadian Content than others, without the fear of losing them. It is clear the the success of schools like Platty, Elmira and RIT in ECAC West is due to a large part, on both the quality and quantity of their Canuck content.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

UMass Boston beat Castleton 2-1. Good game with all 3 goals scored in the 3rd. Shots were UM-B 31 and Castleton 37. The video from Castleton was very good with a play-by-play and color announcer. One of the best videos we have seen.

NEC put the whoop on UMass Boston 4-1, including an empty netter with 00:03 left. The shots were closer, with UM-B at 34 and NEC coming in at 32. The video through FASTHockey was awful. The operator had the camera display on the screen through the game. FASTHockey did very little to fix it, and they were of no help after the game was over. The support staff chose to be of no value. Hate to say it, but I will think twice when it comes down to using FASTHockey again

I could totally way off base here but I believe those other schools (Buff St, Geneseo and Potsdam) were in violation because the only international students they had were/are on a limited number of teams, not just hockey teams. The F/A package was not level with regular students.
RIT on the other hand has a huge international population at school (students from 100 different countries) so their packages can be compared to regular students and are compliant with NCAA rules. I can't comment on Platty, Elmira, Oswego (especially the men's team) and Norwich on how they do it but the hockey success is clear. I would be willing to bet that they have numerous international students that don't play sports as well, which would make them compliant.

NSN is right there as top of the line quality for a D-III hockey production. It's a professional company but the games do cost a pretty penny to do. Most of the fasthockey and ustream broadcasts are solo camera type productions and are done by kids with sometimes no announcer. They also cost next to nothing.

You get what you pay for.

Norwich also uses NSN and they have 8-10 women's games being broadcasted this year. The only thing that I have seen beat NSN on a consistent basis in D-III is Oswego's student tv station. They are top of the line in every facet. Completely student run but they have 3-4 cameras at every game with a full 4-person analyst crew as well as a pbp and color commentator. They have graphics for the screen and everything. There are around 15-20 people that have a part in that kind of production though.

By the looks of the sched we can get a first hand account of the quality of the production this Wednesday night as NSN is carrying the Platty/NU tilt. Should be a good one!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Gustavus & River Falls tied at 0 -- 0 at the end of period one.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

River Falls leads Gustavus Adolphus 1-0 late in the second period after Kait Mason beats Danielle Justice with a wrist shot from the high slot to the left side of the net.

A 5'7" tough guy - love those.

Well Cherry, who by the way used to both play for and coach the Rochester AHL team (Amerks ?), would be proud of the lad.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Once upon a time I had never been in Plattsburgh when the sun was shining and it wasn't snowing or threating to snow...now, suddenly it seems anytime I am in Northfield...
Anyway, should be a good one (what with Gove vs Gove and all)!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Plattsburgh vs. Norwich about to drop the puck in 5 minutes.

Teal Gove vs. Tyne Gove on the opening faceoff.

Aveson in goal for Plattsburgh and Fisk in goal for Norwich.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

four to go in 1st period and we have zeroes in Northfield.

Plattsburgh kills off three penalties so far.

Stay tuned to the intermission...yours truly will be the intermission guest on the NSN broadcast. :)

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

1-1 after two periods at the 'Berg.

Norwich outshooting Plattsburgh 21-6.

The Cadets had two 5x3's and couldn't score. Aveson playing well for Plattsburgh between the pipes. Norwich definitely the faster team and has hemmed Plattsburgh into their own end for large portions of time. The penalties have certainly helped but Norwich hasn't been able to take advantage of the opportunities.

Should be a good third. Plattsburgh started to get things rolling a bit towards the end of the second period and now they certainly have some confidence being tied going to the final 20 minutes when they have for the most part been outplayed.
