Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Looked like the Gustavus goalie was interested in pushing a Superior forward off the gloveside post, lost track of hte puck as it came out front to the top of the crease and was nailed into the twine. 1-1
Now 2-1 Gustavus on a Schwab goal

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Schwab gives GAC the lead again 13:17 into the 2nd
2-1 GAC over UWS
end of 2nd period

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

GAC is playing all 3 goalies tonight. Justice started the 3rd period in net

not too terribly disappointed with this result. Think it legitimizes UWS as a contender in the west a little bit since they hung in there with them. Curious what the 3 goalie reasoning is, I'd almost take it as a slap in the face. "we don't need to put our best out there to beat you" type thing...could be wrong though

couple possible reasons. carrol was confident they could beat UWS. Trying to figure out his goalie situation for the stretch run. It was a non conference game against a quality opponent that really did not mean a whole lot. Certainly gives all three goalies some confidence to get to play against a quality opponent and not just against a lousy team like most coaches have their backups play. carrol can have confidence in all 3 come crunch time, a real bonus for a good coach. I think it will pay huge dividend for GAC in the long run. and yes UWS is a contender in the West especially in the NCHA

Could be..But Coach Carroll could also have three really good goaltenders and maybe he's trying to see how they all are shaping up in a game situation against the same team. Clearly by the final score, Superior proved they belonged on the same ice as GAC.

I think that is the closest the shot count has been between those teams in quite some time.

The goaltending situation at Gustavus is a bit of a puzzle. Looking back they have played 17 tenders since the '01-'02 season. There was a season ('06-'07) when they had 4 goalies pretty much split playing time. There has been no team winning the NCAA title that has started more than one goalie in the playoff round. When Gustavus gets to crunch time at the end of the season they have had less than successful goal play ('02-'03 MIAC championship a collective 4/20; '04-'05 NCAA semi vs Middlebury 7/21; '06-'07 NCAA quarter final vs Superior 3/8; '07-'08 NCAA quarter final vs Superior 3/9; '09-'10 NCAA semi vs Amherst 20/24). Teams that win titles seem to need the confidence that they can get up ice and make a play and KNOW their goal will bail them out if the need arises.

Goaltending has always been their weakness. For awhile there GAC couldn't even keep the same starting goalie for 2 years in a row...or on the roster for 4 years. Justice seemed to be the answer to that problem, but now not sure what Carroll is doin

Plattsburgh and Norwich is still on.

Norwich will be loading up the bus shortly and heading out.

I'll be on it. :)

Can't wait. Should be a barn burner tonight! Safe travels to anyone attempting to make it.
