D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

I was at the Utica game and would put the shots closer to 35 -24. There was no shot counter on the scoreboard to make any in game assessment of the shot totals as they occurred during the game. Although Williams outplayed Utica for the first two periods, the game was not as lopsided as the shot totals would have you believe. The funniest thing of all is that they reported the attendance at 1000 when there was no more than 100 in the building including both teams and personnel. My guess is that someone got carried away with the zero's.

Why does something in me feel like TAS counts a pipe as a SOG? Although it's been two weeks since I've done a game so I could just not be remembering correctly lol

We had this situation arise in the Norwich platty game and it did not register as a shot on goal when I keyed in pipe.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

I would agree that judging a game based upon shots on goal is difficult due to the inconsistent application of the definition of shots, as well as the fact that many statisticians have had a track record of being generous with their team's goalie. However, IMHO even if the shot count was accurate and consistent, using the number of shots as an indicator of how each team played is also flawed. Hypothetically a team could launch 30 shots on goal and none of them might be quality scoring chances. Their opponent could attempt 20 shots, and 15 of them are quality scoring chances. If I were a spectator at that game I would know that the team with 20 SOG thoroughly outplayed the team with 30 SOG. However, if I was just reading the boxcore, I would think the 30-shot team competed but got beat by the opposing goalie.

Just found out the Trinity/Norwich game is being webcasted at the above link.

Check it out. :) should be a good one.

I'll provide end of period updates still as I'm live at the Koeppel Community Center Ice Arena.

Nice new barn the bantams have here.

...ouch...the Norwich tidal wave has gone "tsumini" -- it's 1-0 Norwich after 2 on a sophie LeClerc goal. Apparently our fearless shotcounter is busy at another counter

I see Norwich carrying play in second.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

...and final: trinity 2 - Norwich 1

Looks like Trinity had the edge int he first 13-6 in shots and then they went to sleep in the second with Norwich 17-2 in shots and only getting LeClerc's goal. Celia Coleman-McGaw and one of the captains on a PP got the two third period goals for Trinity.

All gals must be weathering exams and papers and staying up late -- it is tough to play good hockey under curricular stress. Good job by both teams for a good game amidst their "other" requirements.

(I am sure Preze will check in as soon as he finds a parking spot)

Now 1-1. Shots 17-18. Looks like heck of a game. I am not getting time on live stats. Looks like middle 2nd.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Final: SNC -- 10, Marian -- 0.
The Knights had their way with the Sabres....dominated play....spent about 75% of the time in Marian's defensive zone.

Two more games tonight that fit in the "that can't be right" category...

Utica outshot Cortland 37-17 yet lost 5-2.

*Norwich outshoots Trinity 39-24 but...yup 2-1 Trinity.

On bus back now. Recap is posted on Norwich website. I had a post after the 2nd period and got kicked off the Internet connection while making it . Sorry didn't have time to post again

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Thanks, notfrom. RF looking scarry this year.

They aren't necessarily dominating in any particular phase of the game. Goaltending is good enough to get through games as the offense is just enough to get the job done.

Justice gave RF the game winner on an unscreened slapshot that should have been a routine save for her.

outshooting by 18.4 gpg and outscoring by 3.2 gpg isn't dominating?? They put up 40 shots on Gustavus, something I'd be willing to bet hasn't happened I a long time. You must be an easterner :)

Ostergaard (5 -- 1) and Straus (1 -- 5) both with six points tonight. Team records for goals and assists in one game. I don't think Straus lost a faceoff all night.
Five goals in second period, another team record, as was the 10 total goals.

There's lies, d**n lies, and there's statistics. RF's game is to shoot it in hard from the point and slug it out for garbage goals, hence the shot differential. They don't move the puck around and look for good shots, they just shoot the puck. They do seem to have a lot of depth, but they don't have a Herring or a Faber who is clearly better than the other players on the ice. And that is the difference between RF and the Eastern teams. The better eastern teams have that depth AND a dominant player OR at least a dominant goalie. I'm sorry, I haven't seen that their goalies can carry games at RF. The eastern teams that win it all seem to have that goalie.

Don't get me wrong. Right now RF is probably the best team in the west. Not by as much as the record indicates, IMHO. And I'm not so sure that they are the 3rd best team in the country, either.

I'm not an easterner, BTW.

I know your not an easterner. I haven't seen a River Falls game yet this year. The funny thing is that, that has been the strategy of the Gusties for as long as I can remember. "If we throw the puck at the net 50 times a game, we're bound to get a couple in." Due to my location in hell, aka Arizona, I haven't seen many RF games the past couple of years...but don't remember that always being their strategy.
